Appalachian State: -18
Appalachian State has an extremely consistent offense (16th in the nation) and their defense is pretty solid with only having given up more then 2 touchdowns 3 times (though those 3 times were during the last 5 games).
On the other side of that, Southern Alabama is 97th in scoring and 117th in defense. And are spotty at best.
On top of all that, Jerry Moore is rumored to be attending the game and Appalachian State players are known to play far better when he's around.
Alabama -16 1/2 Florida 40 1/2
I originally figured Alabama would be a 17 point favorite in this game, pretty spot on. The problem is that I think people have been listening to telecasters too much on how good Alabama is.
Alabama is a good team. However Alabama seems to be spotty often and it's hard to judge the power of the SEC with their 2 notable OOC conference games coming week 1. The SEC has 11 OOC losses and only 7 power five conference wins. Some o their wins look far better then they actually were as well.
Florida... well, I think we all knew they were weak. I don't this they are as weak as FSU made them look though. Or to say that better, I don't think Florida is as bad in the SEC as they are out of conference. Florida can be expected to show up with some fire after a horrible loss and Saban hates running the score up against any team, let alone a fellow SEC team. Florida's defense is the real thing as well.
The game seems like a gamble to me. Though I might bet small leaning Florida to cover...
Michigan -3 1/2 Iowa 52 1/2
Michigan and Iowa average the same amount of points per game: 33. Iowa is 15th in the nation in defense and MSU is 22nd.
Iowa beat #25 Wisconsin (9-3), Pitt (8-4), and #13 Northwestern (10-2) (who beat duke and stanford and on that note, Northwestern is probably underanked).
MSU beat Oregon (9-3), #19 Michigan (9-3) (which really should have been a loss due to one of the craziest plays in NCAAF history), and #6 OSU (11-1) (who in horrid weather beat themselves more then MSU beat them)
I think these 2 teams are very similar and Iowa probably gets less credit then they should. However, that division is certainly weaker then MSU's division.
Watching the games, these teams just looked too much alike for me, and I'm going to take the points and go with Iowa. I don't think I would recommend them though.
