Suck is a strong word. Not as good as Russell? Sure. But he is a Freshman what did you expect? That game against Oklahoma was against a really good D in torrential down pour. Not great conditions to truly evaluate one's level of "suckage". From what I have seen in 2 games he looks like a guy who would be able to make Briles system hum in a short amount of time.

Baylor's biggest problem isn't Stidham.......check their defensive stats in last two games.....previous to that they had not really played anyone of substance including W. Va. and T. Tech They have been exposed and will most likely not finish well at all.

Ok, let me preface this by saying I am a Baylor grad, still live in the Waco area and have season tix/donor. I have been a diehard Baylor fan all my life (4 decades). Been there when we were decent, when we were awful and when we are great. Pretty safe to say I've got as much insight into Baylor athletics as anyone on this board. But, I'm one of the more objective Baylor fans you'll find. I call it like I see it, even when it's not good for my Bears. So, take what I say however you prefer.
The OU game is a great example. I felt it was likely we would lose that game since Seth got hurt. OU has been playing well and frankly, after two straight blow outs at the hands of Baylor, they were very motivated. They did some good things defensively against us and offensively they played well. Mayfield is playing out of his mind the last month or so.
At the same time, Baylor could have won that game. Were there some really questionable calls? Sure. But, what cost Baylor the win against OU was offensive playcalling. It simply wasn't Baylor offensive football. And that's really frustrating.
Part of that was the weather. Part of it was the stage and moment being a little too big for Jarrett. Part of it was Corey (Coleman) not being anywhere near 100% because he turned his ankle in practice during the week. Part of it was Stidham's back got hurt on the first series. Part of it was trying to establish the run. Part of it was just madness. But, whatever, it is what it is. We lost.
In reply to the original post regarding Stidham. He is immensely talented, but he is a true frosh. Rosen at UCLA is another good example of how freshmen can be inconsistent. In the OU game, I felt like the coaches hamstrung Jarrett with the playcalling. The short passing game was there, especially over the middle, but they didn't exploit it. I don't have a good answer as to why.
I digrees. Point is Jarrett is really good. He definitely doesn't suck. Is he ready to be the man against a top 10 team? From last week you have to say no. That doesn't mean he sucks. I can tell you this. Briles knows QB's and he's as good as it gets at developing them. He has told people Jarrett is THE BEST quarterback he's ever seen and I know he believes Jarrett has the ability to break every QB record at Baylor, which is saying something after the last five years.
One last note ... Stillwater is traditionally a really bad place for Baylor to play, especially lately. Backup QB with a sore back just makes it even harder. I don't have money on the game.

I really appreciate the info and the write up, but it just astonishes me how Baylor looked without Seth, I just think there could be better freshman or better QBs.
Maybe I am used to seeing Seth play so good and Stidham is no where near his performance.
I dont know really man I dont like how he carries the offence, he could have done a lil bit more, we know that, just a lil bit more like not throw any picks? Or maybe be rush a little more?
Its something I dont like about him, he is no where near Seth Russell in my opinion but I guess its a matter of taste, what kind of style you like and I like Baylor when Seth Russell was at QB.

The weather played a massive role in that game. He's a true freshman and they played a very good team, his first real test (k state is abysmal, you saw what Texas tech did to them, and Oklahoma, and everyone else).,

You do realize he got hurt the first series of the game? Freshman in the pouring rain and Baylor still hung in there- If he is healthy you will not think he sucks-

Most guys definition of sucking is placing a wager on a team and that team loses. So by that definition he sucks. But is he QB that actually sucks? Nah. The weather in that game was redonkulous. I am also hearing he actually got hurt in the first quarter? Between that and the rain I would give the guy a few more chances.

No question that right now Seth is a much better QB. Stidham's time is coming. Alot went wrong in that game and Baylor under Stidham still scored 34 points against a good OU defense.
Injured back on first series, bad weather, first big stage game, great opponent, College Gameday and again, the biggest to me, bad game plan and playcalling ... Stidham definitely doesn't suck.

They really condensed the playbbok For Stidham. Its obvious he didnt know the whole offense they run. Another reason they dont want him running that spread option. If he gets hurt they dont have really anybody behind him. A QB thats currently one of their receivers. The kid will be really good. Russel didnt look that good last year but got some really good reps that prepared him for this season. I think this kid will turnout to be really good once he gets his shot after Russel is gone.

wow, have you seen some of the throws this kid can make?
he's not Russell but nobody else is either, Stidham is a freshman and he's going to be fine when he gets healthy, he will be one of the top QB's in college football in 2 years without question, with a healthy back he would start at 90% of schools right now, he's just in a tough situation & he's not healthy, he can't run the offense to the tune of Russell and he's not quite as polished yet as someone who's been in the system for 3-4 years
inexperienced, injured & playing the toughest part of the schedule will make most 18 year old kids seem average
