A&M offense has never been a issue. ITs always been there D. However this summer Sumlin went out and got the only D coordinator that has had his number. Chavis comes over from LSU with a very impressive resume. He inherates a D with 8 returning starters, according to Phil Steele they have talent all over the D.
I feel every team in the sec this year does have a guy or 2 in the armour. Schedule shapes up nice as they only play LSU, MIss and Vandy on the road. Currently they are 15-1 to win the SEC,if Chavis can get the D to improve a decent amount I feel this is a very under the radar team.

They have a favorable schedule so they have that going for them as well. New coordinators are always a question mark, but on top of that Chavis and A&M have had to deal with lawsuits as well as players getting accustomed to Chavis.

So Auburn is 2nd choice at 5-1 to win the SEC all because of Muschamp becoming D coordinator. A&M gets a D coordinator just as good and they get no respect? Ill take the 15-1.

This game is a pass for me. Last year, A&M defense was an absolute sh!t show. To think that new DC will come in and completely turn them around by week 1 is not reasonable. Steele claiming A&M has talent all over their D is a bold statement given how awful they were last year and even the year before.
AZ state's QB is actually pretty good. I watched him play a few times last year and he is pretty accurate. He actually brought them back from behind in one game after Kelly went down...i dont recall who they were playing but it was a respectable opponent. Apparently the sportswriter and coaches feel AZ state will be decent this year, ranking the #15 and 16. A&M is unranked. Based on that, I would have gone with AZ state in this game. But because the game is being played at the 12th man...the game is a pass for me as A&M usually plays pretty solid at home.
There are better picks on the board. Earlier this week i liked Kentucky, BYU, Auburn, Michigan, Tennessee, and Mississippi State. I haven't looked to see what the lines have moved to but the boys have threads on all of these games already so just have a look for yourself if you need. I'm unsure about Tenn now...they have had several injuries in camp...need to see how critical some of those are.

When Malzhon came to Auburn he brought them to the NCAA champ game in his 1st year.. To think the A&M D can't improve is being short sighted. FYI Auburn was not ranked that year and I cleaned up on them.. A&M is favored vs ASU

I didn't say it wasn't POSSIBLE...i said it wasn't REASONABLE. If you think what Auburn did in Malzhon's 1st season happens all the time or even once in a while...you are kidding yourself. Complete turnarounds like that are very rare. I was simply telling the guy...there are better picks on the board that to hang your hat on instead of an instant great performance by such a rotten D.

To think the new D coordinator can not get a improvement from this D is short sighted with the amount of talent on that side of the ball. Bottom line is time will tell. First game is a tough one vs ASU. Also it would not surprise me at all to see a 2 loss SEC champion this year. Good luck to all of you and I am going to make this the official A&M thread this year.

I am surprised A&M is not ranked. On talent alone they should be ranked.
Rankings - especially rankings done by media + coaches - are complete BS. They are poorly researched and poorly projected. All based on last year. Lost 5 of last 7 in SEC play - that's all everybody remembers...and since all teams will play exactly like last year then they should be unranked (sigh).
A&M should be ranked. They are a legit top 20 team and will play like it. Their defense does need to prove themselves on the field first before anyone else believes it.

Thanks Michfan. I played A&M to win it all at 60-1 with my guy..
WE should know Sat night, what A&M has to an extent. They blew out the cocks last year to start the season,so I won't get to excited, its a long year. I do have faith in the D Coordinator though.
I almost pulled the trigger on Mich tomorrow night but the line dropped to 4 leaving it alone, just going to enjoy the game. Good luck to you.

All righty then of to a good start. I had to go to a wedding tonight but from what I saw A&M looked just fine on the Defense. 7 sacks special teams score holding ASU to 17 pts I am happy from what I saw with the D. A bit worried regarding the O. Got to remember ASU was the toughest team to go down with a loss this weekend.. Next up is Ball state. Hoping they don't come in flat I would like to see improvement on the O line which I hope helps the QB out. Long season but happy with the outcome of tonight's game.. I took A&M in the game as well 1-0 for the year.

A&M's revamped defense under John Chavis, the former LSU coordinator, forced two turnovers, had nine sacks and 14 tackles for losses. It was the most sacks the Aggies have had since they had 10 against Texas Tech in 1995.
''You could tell their defensive coordinator has had a really big impact on them,'' Arizona State coach Todd Graham said.

A&M came out of the ASU game pretty healthy. I would really like to see the Offense build some unity this week. Need the qb to play better and be consistent,no juggling of qb's.
This D may exceed my expectations as the 2 ends are nasty.
Since this is A&M first home game I'm expecting the D to be nasty again.
This game is a no bet for me was tinkering with the over but Ball State may not score more than 14 and 30 is just way to much to lay for my liking. Hope they. Avoid injuries keep improving before the big boys come to town.
