I'm brand-new to the forum. I welcome all opinions and appreciate all comments. I am interested to hear what people think about the first game of the season North Carolina versus South Carolina. My gut tells me that North Carolina wins this thing straight up. But something tells me not to bet against Steve Spurrier. Each of these teams defenses sucked last year. UNC returns their entire offense and USC is without a quarterback or any offensive weapons other than Cooper (who is good, no doubt). I also wonder how good Gene Chizick will be in his first year as UNC's defensive coordinator.

It's all on the UNC Defense. If they can get them to tackle , they win. If you like UNC. Take the ML.

I wouldnt say SC only has one offensive weapon.... Senior RB brandon wilds is showing improved break away speed in fall practice, and whoever the QB is will have a massive 6'6 senior TE Jerell adams to step in and take up the slack in the receiving corp. - That being said, until i c the defense stop a mobile QB, ill be leary.

UNC returns 10 of 11 starters on offense. One thing I've been looking for info on is the status of the QB's surgery. Has Marquise Williams been back to 100%? Gotta figure UNC will utilize him less as a runner.

note: to be fair (which we don't have to be btw......) his schedule did get tougher each year
will they be IMPROVED?...... my GUESS is yes they MIGHT make them SHOW YOU first....they could smash SC here or could get their azz kicked too ..............

UNC's o-line is veteran, but I personally witnessed (younger) defenses bowl them over on multiple occasions. Don't buy into the hype here.
UNC can't tackle worth a damn. Chizik might help, but he's on the record as telling the media not to expect a major turnaround year 1. Tackling is a RECRUITED skill, it's not so easy to develop tackling. These guys are one of the softest units in all of FBS and the numbers back that up.
I fully expect Spurrier to have a solid gameplan. Fedora hasn't shown me much thus far. Fedora will need a shootout to really have a good shot at getting the W. When Marquise is pressured he REALLY struggles too.
Be careful with this one guys. UNC has a lot to prove before I start backing them. This team has documented chemistry issues and their offense can be very schizophrenic, as well. Their starting DB is also suspended for this game.

Even if Spurrier has the greatest gameplan in history, he doesn't have a QB, doesn't have anything at #2 or #3 WR, has to replace 2 draft picks on OL including a 2nd round pick.
UNC's defense isn't lights out, but the SC offense won't be lights out either.

Both these defenses were dog poopi last year, and both got new coordinators...we'll c which coaching staff can get the most improvement. - I feel like there are to many unknowns here to take a side. - Dont be surprised if SC goes back to a ground game heavy with read option, utilizing the tru frosh mobile threat QB Nunez. - The only 100% guaranteed edge in the game is Spurrier vs Fedora, and we all know who has the edge there. - Many more somewhat predictable games on the board in week 1

I was looking at Fedoras offense and he runs plays every 20.5 seconds. With the talent returning I see UNC scoring and scoring often. I understand S Carolina has only one dynamic playmaker returning but I have to figure Spurrier will have his team ready to answer. S Carolina is still an SEC team and that talent will translate. I see the total of 64-65.5 low. Does anyone object??

I have looked at Fedoras offense and see that they want to run a play ever 20.5 sec. I think with the returning players on offense they can put points up. Coach Spurrier will have his team ready to respond and even though Cooper is their only returning dynamic player they still have SEC talent. The total of 64-65.5 is low to me. Cant see SC losing this game especially after last seasons crushing opener..not much expected of Spurriers team this year...whixh translates as Watch Out IMO

Too much uncertainty with both defenses in this matchup. Both defenses sucked last year. UNC hires Gene Chizik who has been a coordinator in a long time, but was still very sought after. Meanwhile Spurier reloads his terrible front 7 with a bunch of JUCO players.
Both offenses will be fine, UNC coming off one of their best years offensively. Spurier's offense is always good, they have a new QB this year, but also had a new one last year and was fine.
If I had to choose, I'd take the pts with UNC, but otherwise it's too early to know the impacts on these defenses.

NC is very inconsistent. I think SC gets their 35-40 points, but I could see NC getting only 17-28 points.
