Eastern Michigan has announced today that when they take the field August 30th to play Morgan State{I know we all circled that game on the calendar} that they will be playing on a new Gray colored turf. E.Michigan will be the 2nd FBS team to have a field color different than green Boise State being the other. Its a Gray sirface with a big Green E in the Middle
E.Michigan is the 6th college to sport a non green field the others are:
1. Boise State {Blue}
2 .Central Arkansas FCS school[Alternates between Purple and Gray every 5 years}
3 Eastern Washington FCS {Red}
4. New Haven University D-2[Blue}
5 Lindenwood University NAIA { Alternates every 5 years between Red and Gray}
The interesting note in here is Eastern Michigan had to ask for Boise State's permission to have this Gray Field because Boise State owns a trademark to any non-green playing surfaceSo any school who wants to change their field color either gets thumps up or thumbs down from Boise. And it includes High schools as well because Boise State didn't allow a high school in North Carolina to have a blue field
From the EMU side i like the move hey it gets people talking about Eastern Michigan football in June but what bothers me is that Boise State can get a trademark saying only we can have a different color field. Its amazing what you can trademark now a days
If you want to see a picture of the EMU field go to EMU's twitter page. Just keeping everyone informed Your thoughts guys?

BWS i watched an EWU game a couple years ago and it was snowing and the field looked cool but when you 1st see the red field you go WOW That hurts my eyes
LHN i agree it doesn't give them an edge but it does get people to talk EMU football in June. I actually got to interview the new HC Chris Creighton LY when he got hired as i was filling in on a radio show in my town. Smart guy hopefully he can get the program going in a couple of years

E Washington won the FCS national title their 1st year on the red turf in 2010.....their one and only.....(42-13 since......27-20 before) *it pumps their fans and players up a little more no doubt...and creates a distraction for the visiting team
That Boise control over non-green fields is very strange ..... *looks like they don't (necessarily) care too much if it's blue....you just can't market it being blue....wtf

Pack, just my opinion, but I think the first time EMU plays a home game in a snowstorm they will regret their color selection. Yes, I know it would be a potential problem for both teams , but why create a potential problem for a team that needs every break they can get?

Hey wiseguy thats an interesting point you made. It doesn't bother me either way because in a sense they did their job with the field. They got us talking EMU football in June on covers. Hopefully in time they can be good. Did you know since i was born EMU has never won 7 games
