His website reports he will not be publishing his FCS and NFL guides this year.  And the newsstand date for the FBS guide is June 18.  If you pre-order he says it'll ship a week earlier, but it'll cost an extra five bucks.  I distinctly remember buying last year's guide around Memorial Day at B&N.

well cro i'll give my thoughts on all this

1. It hits the newsstand June 18 but all the stores get them early and 99% just put them out they don't wait for the date. I got mine LY around the same time

2. Never saw his FCS book but his NFL book was a joke. Go through the book he didn't put much time into it. There's a crapload of spelling errors and didn't give me much to work with. He puts more time into the full college football preview anyways. Try to find a spelling error in the college preview. He was lazy with the NFL book

I've gotta believe that Golson is on one of the regional covers, if not the national version cover.  I'll bet he has ND rated high, and I've got to believe he's already gone to press.  I doubt Mr. Steele is in a good mood this morning.

BTW, anyone found a copy yet?

Heard Phil on satellite radio last Friday. He said some markets would start seeing the CFB mag by June 4 and that he estimated it would be available in approximately 30 percent of the nation by June 11. Definitely a little later than recent years past.

Good luck,

Paul

I love using the FBS publication. Never used anything else. I call the number each week and he gives out a different play each day like, early bird play or top underdog. They do pretty well but I just use a a guide.

I bought his NFL game of the year last year and it won.

Lots of folks already had their mags by this time last year, myself included.  I can't decide whether to wait for my next trip to Walgreen's or Walmart or just order the damn thing online.

The Phone Number may be for the pre-order so the office lady can call you to get your credit card number. I pre-ordered the regionals a few years ago and seem to remember this.

But now there is no reason to pre-order because the magazine is on the stands by the time it takes Steele to ship it media mail.

As for solicitations, I had a Power Sweep about 6 year ago.  Since then, I get about 3 issues of Power Sweep free per year, and no calls.

One thing that has be worried is Phil Steele seems to be working for ESPN now.  I hope he isn't spreading himself too thin.

Steele's methods are confusing....because he is trying to be recognized / respected as a CFB 'expert'.....and not a handicapper....(it has worked BTW....as he votes for several awards and is cited on most official websites)....most schools no doubt aren't aware he sells his picks also under 'Northcoast Sports'.......

POWER RATINGS (his 'Power Poll')
  *what you should care about

1     Bama
2     Ohio St
3     Ducks
4     Fla St wtf
5     Texas  huh
6     Georgia
7     USC WHAT?
8     Tree
9     Irish
10   Okie St are you sure
11    Aggies
12    Gators
13    LSU
14    S Caro
15    OU
16    Ole Miss
17    TCU
18    Va Tech
19    Louisville
20   Clemson wow

Meanwhile his predicted top 20.....at season's end

1     Bama
2     Ohio St
3     Fla St
4    Texas
5    Ducks
6    USC wanna bet
7    Louisville
8    Okie St
9    Georgia
10   Irish

SEC
  *Bama / Georgia

Big10
*Ohio St / Nebraska or Mich St

Big12
*Texas .....> Okie St > OU > TCU > Bears

ACC
  *Fla St / VT

PAC12
  *Ducks / USC...........Cal last in N

AAC (what is this )
  *Louisville........> UCF > Cinn > Hou > SMU........

MTW
  *Fresno / Boise

CUSA
  *Marshall  / Tulsa

MAC
  *NI / BG

SB
  *ULL

Maybe focus on his using his research....avoid putting too much emphasis on his predictions
*as some no doubt intended to create a 'buzz'

He tells you how good / bad teams REALLY were last year.....the changes that have since occurred...how teams have performed in the past in specific situations....the strength of their opponents.....and then how he thinks they will do in 2013 ..........

*keeping in mind this is POST spring stuff...once fall camp starts many changes will occur.....some already have (Irish wouldn't be his 9th best team now)
