Think about it now, you can call this a Bowl Game if you want, but haven't these 2 played each other for a zillion years? How many times have I written about stupid chalk numbers based on Conference "love". And doesn't Vegas have a pretty good idea how the public is gonna go? Maybe a Baylor-UCLA matchup is great because you have such distinct styles and match-ups. Not so much in this Game, think these 2 kinda know each other.
The wrong team is favored here. FWIW. I know someone's gonna argue that. But the public loves a Heismann winner, Vegas knows that. And a freshman phenom on top of it. The kid's an athlete. No dispute. Sooners might have a few of their own on their D. And yes, Johnny beat Bama. BFD. Especially after watching LSU and Florida, the two teams that beat A&M, BOTH get their azzes beat. Literally beaten. Not trying to start another Conference war here, and make all the excuses you may, both got owned! OK, you can tell me that the Sooners got blasted by an over-rated Irish team (that's another discussion we'll save for Monday). They did, no excuses, the Irish controlled them. Sometimes a Defense and a DL control a game. ND has the DL personnel to do that. Aggies don't.
All these threads are gonna talk Johnny Football. Go ahead. Great year, great athlete. So be it with Collin Klein. Enough said. No one's talkin much talk on Landry Jones tho. He's only won 3 Bowl's, thrown for 29 TDs this year, completes 66%, and is the career Big12 leader with 16k yds passing.
Bob Stoops has been to 14 Bowls, every year since hired. He is 7-7, with some big upset losses. Inconsistent. Against teams that presented big match -up problems. Teams that he didn't play every year. The Boise's. I am no Stoops fan, he's cost me lots of money. But he is 11-2 vs TAM. By an avg win margin of almost 20 pts. And he's beat them 8 of last 9. Aggies come here 3-12 in last 15 Bowls; average loss, 15 pts.
Someone's gonna tell me Cotton Bowl's a home Game for Aggies. I took Geography in school, I know that. I also know that Bob Stoops made 4 trips to Texas this year. 4 W's. I also know someone's gonna tell me that Sumlin was an Asst to Stoops and Asst's going against their ex-team are like 13-3 (or something?) in Bowls. Charlie Strong pulled it off. He had a more disciplined team going against a bunch of overrated thugs and a Coach that lost his composure. Stoops won't do that.
Sooners have faced 9 Bowl teams this year. TCU, WVa, KSt, and ISU Bowl losers. OKSt, Baylor, TT, Texas all Bowl winner. OU was 7-1 vs those 8, Irish of course going bigtime on Mon.
Johnny hasn't played for 40 days. That's a heckuva lot of time to get rusty. That's a heckuva lot of banquets and Heismann hype. Landry hasn't played for 34 days. That's a lot of time for a pre-season Heisman hopeful to hear about Johnny. That's also a heckuva lot of time for 2 pretty decent Defenses to put together a stop plan.
Think about it. 73 points. Again, Vegas knows bettors want to see pts scored. You saw results of that last night. I know these 2 capable of 40-45 pts apiece. Maybe if regular season with a week's rest, I'd jump that. Here I can't. Sumlin knows the Stoops boys too well. And likewise.
They have played the Cotton Bowl since 1937. Do the math, thats alot of Games. In 2009, Ole Miss beat TT 47-34. In 1985 Boston Coll-Houston combined for the 73, 45-28. That's it. Only 1 game in Cotton Bowl history over a 73 Total. One push. That's a heckuva lot of Under's. Yea, I know those don't matter cuz those teams weren't the OKL and TAM teams in today's game. Matter to mice.
Lastly a strong Bowl angle on this that is now 22-3, was in play on both Texas and Syracuse wins, but it lost on NCSt. I know those don't matter either, unless you're a Mice.
And mice are wrong alot.
