#1954 Posted: 1/3/2013 6:55:08 PM The fiesta bowl tends to produce some pretty intense games and close ones at that. 4 of the last 6 have been decided by a td or less and 3 of those were decided by a fg or less. something in the water out there in the desert. this of course was the champ game for a brief moment in time until they both went down, oregon to a plodding and discipilined stanford team and k state to who was probably the hottest team/offense in the nation down the stretch in baylor. k-state certainly isn't flashy and oregon has all the sex appeal you would want - fast, speedy, up tempo, score a lot, - they are nasty, but are they nasty enough to keep k-state out of the endzone and put the chip kelly to the nfl distractions behind them and fully focus? Oregon only has 17 seniors on their entire roster, so this isn't a veteran laden team who has a ton of experience so i would think the focus hasn't exactly been all-in, all the time in the recent weeks. On the other hand, the squad in the boring jerseys, under snyders tutelage will be extremely focused. The Wildcats start 15 seniors, and they have eight more playing important backup minutes. I like experience in bowl games. k-state doesn't care what the name is on the uniform, they went to oklahoma and won, beast last years big12 champ in oklahoma st, won at wvu when they were still being talked about, beat texas tech, all pretty good offenses. i like the midwestern, bill snyder, aura on this team, they are sound and don't beat themselves, in their biggest conf games against Oklahoma, West Virginia, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Baylor and
Texas — the Wildcats committed just four turnovers, drew an average of
just 4.5 penalties for fewer than 40 yards. plain and simple, these kids go to class and they don't jump off-sides, haha. Oregon committed nine turnovers and averaged nearly eight penalties for about 67 yards per game in their 6 big conf games. when turnovers and penalties usually tell the story, i like having the more disciplined team. k state is undoubtedly going to play keep away from oregon, as they have done against the teams that run about 80 or so plays in their conf, this is nothing new to k state. they will keep the ball for about 33 min or so as that was their avg TOP when they beat those big12 high octane offenses. who by the way were a much better grouping of teams than the group oregon played overall. k state led fbs in turnover margin, again another sign that they are just focused and disciplined, oregon ended up #3 so not too far behind. klein and hubert will be key on offense as well as their top receiver who is an Oregon transfer Harper who played QB for the Ducks before transferring. i'm sure he has a nugget of info or two. k state always has great special teams two that can prove to be a great equalizer in big games and are certainly a big help when catching points. there isn't really much to say about the Oregon offense, it pretty much is what it is at this point, but when a team gets a month to prepare for them, they can and have been held far below their average provided the defense has a salty front 7, which k state does. Oregon was held 21pts below their average in the 2009 rose bowl and auburn held them 30pts under. a combo of a solid d, time to prepare with a good coach, disciplined workman like attitude, an offense that can move the ball and the fact that if you laid points against a bill snyder team away from manhattan you are 0 for your last 8, has me liking the dull and boring wildcats.
K-State +8

I would add-in the fact that Chip Kelly is busy looking for what NFL team he is going to coach next year as opposed to coaching the Ducks right now. |

#1965 Posted: 1/3/2013 7:07:15 PM Bol, but i think some are over estimating the ability of K st defensive front 7 here. In those past bowl games Oregon was going up against SEC opponents when the SEC was dominant! K St doesn't have the talent or ability to get enough stops IMO. Again coaching could have a major factor and I may be over estimating Kelly ability to gameplan as well as Snyder here. Time will tell. BOL Charlotte, great write up! |

This is the most ridiculous angle of this game and wont factor in the game even 1%. Chip Kelly has been "the" college coach for the last couple of years that the NFL has coveted. Several teams wanted him last year and had talks with his agent before last years bowl game and it didnt hurt them one bit in rolling up 45 points in the Rose Bowl.
The big difference with this years Oregon team is the defense is much better than last year. Aside from the game in LA against the Trojans, this defense has played very well this year.
The big thing in this game will be the first quarter. If Oregon gets out early on KState this game will get ugly much like the Baylor game. When KState is forced to pass and the other team knows its coming, the fakes and play action just don't work. This is the reason why they had no chance coming back against Baylor. |

#1970 Posted: 1/3/2013 7:11:48 PM by the way, totally get where you are coming from with Kan Sts wins...but as a Big 12 fan and a huge fan of the Sooners, I always thought OU was over rated. And they GAVE K St that game. West Va, obviously they were just waiting to get exposed against superior talent. TxTech, well we saw what they did after their first 5 cupcakes they played. On the flip side, nobody ever thinks much of the Pac 12, but this year, ASU, UCLA, Stanford were all playin at a high level. USC was down obviously but the conf was much better than normal. So I just dont put a ton of stock into K Sts wins since the Big 12 while very good, didnt have top tier teams in my mind. Anyway, good luck on your play. I'll be disappointed for sure if Oregon doesnt cover and I didnt tail ya |

#1973 Posted: 1/3/2013 7:13:16 PM Hers's a big stat which I believe helped Louisville last nite. Kansas St sold about 40,000 tickets, Oregon...17,000. Players feed off the 12th man...as did Louisville last nite.
GO CS...BANG BANG BANG! |
