The Mississippi State defense, which gave up 154 points in four losses at the end of the season. The Bulldogs have generated next to no pass rush, putting more pressure on the secondary to make big plays. They took advantage of a pillow-soft non-conference schedule, romped over SEC West lightweights Auburn and Arkansas, and played only Kentucky and Tennessee from the SEC East. That's how you reach 8-. Northwestern has had a very productive season, they've beaten an SEC team in vandy which isn't anything to sneeze at, their losses were basically toss ups and ended the season succeeding against one of the best defenses in the nation in mich st and smashing illinois at home as a 19pt fav. Northwestern utilizes a two-QB system that has proven to work effectively. Trevor Siemian is more of a pure passer and gets more of the snaps. Siemian has 1,192 passing yards with a 6/2 TD-INT ratio. Colter gets playing time at WR and is a two-way threat under center with his arm and scrambling ability. Colter has eight TD passes compared to only two interceptions. He has also rushed for 820 yards and 12 TDs with a 5.2 YPC average. their offense overall is similar to ole miss, whom miss st laid an egg in the egg bowl. Against Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State and Illinois (against whom Northwestern went 3-1, losing only to Michigan in overtime in Ann Arbor), Colter completed 36 of 54 passes for 359 yards, six touchdowns and one pick while still rushing for 390 yards. The more Colter is behind center, the better Northwestern is probably doing. all that being said, northwestern has marginal wr so i think think their qb's and venric marks will be where their offense comes from. I mean, its a little weird, but i think NW really should have had a better season that what they had, Northwestern's three losses were all blown leads. Northwestern led 28-17 going into the fourth quarter at Penn State and was outscored 22-0 in the final quarter. The Wildcats led 28-16 at home against Nebraska with less than seven minutes left, and lost. Then they gave up a 53-yard miracle pass to Michigan with just a few seconds left, allowing the Wolverines to kick a field goal to tie a game Michigan won in overtime. NW is not stupid and i don't think they are going to continue to test the corners for mississippi st, NW is going to rely on its running game, like any respectable Big Ten team. The Wildcats rank 15th in FBS in rushing offense. They've typically been a big dog in bowl games, but they have a legit chance to get the monkey off their back, i also like Fitzgerald in the coaching match up. I think they will be smarter than msu and get the win. this line has been all over the place, and i'm usually a fav to dog guy, but my guy has it as a pk and so i'm rolling against the SEC here, which normally is against the masses but it seems like NW is getting some public love and I'm one of them. along with the under.
