#1 Posted: 12/7/2012 10:54:35 PM Taggert leaving WKU to be the head man at USF.. I like this hire as he imo is one of the up and coming coaches in the country. Of Course i liked the Skip Holtz hire there as well. But i think USF did well in getting Taggert. What say you? |

#2 Posted: 12/7/2012 11:42:08 PM Not sold on Taggart. I know he is from the area. 16-20 at W Kentucky. This is a big upgrade over Skip Holtz? 3 years is all Holtz gets? He was decimated by injuries this year. He was a constant presence in the community. We are talking S Florida here. Holtz was the Head Coach in 7 Bowl Games. He is 17 games above .500 as a HC.
I may be in the minority here, but I wouldnt have fired Holtz. especially for Taggart who is far from a proven commodity. Again, we are talking S Florida here. They expect Willie Taggart to turn it around? Good Luck. |

#3 Posted: 12/8/2012 12:27:46 AM USF grad here, will give my opinion tomorrow after more research, If the last name doesn't rhyme with "boltz," it's an upgrade. |

#5 Posted: 12/8/2012 8:38:40 AM Holtz had to go and I think that USF could have done a lot worse than Taggart. I've never thought of USF as a team that had a dominating ground game, that will change now.
WKU had a very innovative clause in Taggarts contract that stated that if he left to coach another school, that school would have to schedule a home and home series with the Hilltoppers. |

Wow, thanks for the input, person-head. Maybe alums care? Maybe guys that want to see the Big East rebuild? Maybe guys like Giants Jason Pierre-Paul who went to South Florida. Maybe guys that remember when USF shot up to #2 in the nation at one time, and want to see them as a powerhouse again. I'm not normally into name calling, but as an alum had to do it. Maybe you're not as behind, but that was a person-head comment. :-)
Anyway, all indications here in Tampa are that this guy is an outstanding decision. Taggart is a former assistant to Jim Harbaugh when he was at Stanford. He was personally recommended by Harbaugh. Tony Dungy not only recommended him by reaching out to the athletic dept, but actually attended the announcement & press conference. During an ESPN panel segment yesterday on the numerous coaching changes in NCAAF, Taggart was described as the "best move of the whole bunch."
Of course, the proof is in the Ws and Ls, but all signs point to this being a GREAT move. |

#9 Posted: 12/9/2012 10:50:01 AM LOL at the auto corrected "person head" auto correct. Let's see what happens if I wanted to make a comment about legendary Bear's linebacker person Butkus. |

#12 Posted: 12/10/2012 2:09:43 AM I think it's a great hire. How long before he's poached by another school? |

#13 Posted: 12/11/2012 11:55:15 PM I went to HS with Skip Holtz. He was a slightly above average student, player, and kid. The fact that he is, after nearly two decades as a HC, only a few games over .500 is entirely consistent with the guy I knew 30 years ago. And I liked him - had no personal complaints about him whatsoever - but he was average in most all respects and, IMO, he still is. Had he not had his father, no way in hell would he have been a Div. I HC - ever. Not saying anything about Taggert because I don't know enough about him, but as for Holtz, he's good if you want to be average ... if you want to regularly compete for and win championships, he's not your guy.
