What a hire by California. they understand who they are with this hire. They know they can't compete player wise with USC,UCLA and stanford. So with this hire and Dykes bringing his style of offense they will imo cause havoc in the pac-12. With his running 80-100 plays a game this is like a run and shoot offense on steroida

With the stadium improvements and the new facilities i have no doubt Dykes will win at Cal. As for La.Tech you lose Dykes+no bowl that a.d should be headed to the unemployment line

California fans you better not go get a soda during the game they move fast. you guys hit a grand slam. Your thoughts guys?

Dykes at Cal will yield exciting football but unless he can bring Dixon,Patton, and Cameron with him the Bears will not be a factor in the PAC12.  In fact they will probably be on par with the second year version of Leach's Cougars and a far cry from Rich Rod's 'Cats, CK's Ducks, Mora's Bruins, the Trojans, 'Devils, Huskies, and Cardinal and don't forget the Beavers. I also predict that Utah will beat Cal again next season.

check back in 4 years,

they will have moved the football well,

they will have stopped no one,

they won't win more than 9 regular seasons in what is becoming a very deep conference with some great coaches,

he'll have one 9 win season heading to a bowl for possible 10th win,

the rest will be average,

the cupboard is getting bare in berkeley,

it will hard to reload with so many great coaches in the league recruiting like crazy

Wow that came out way too harsh,I shouldn't post after having a couple of cocktails.

I actually like Dykes and I hope that he does well at Cal. I just don't know how innovative his offense will be in this particular conference. He did enjoy success as Arizona's OC in the past but the PAC 12 has seen many different versions of that offense since then and teams are better eqipped to deal with them nowadays. I assume that he will bring Tony Franklin with him as well. I will also be rooting for Franklin to do well because I feel that he was unfairly black balled after being made the scapegoat at Kentucky. It's nice to see him doing his thing in a BCS conference again.

I will be rooting for the Bears, I just can't see them elevating themselves to the upper echelon of the conference for a while or causing havoc throughout the PAC 12 as packers suggested.

While Cal might not turn into some BCS "power" they will have the kind of offense that can spring some surprise victories over teams they "should" lose to. I hate to see him leave La. Tech as I am a fan after watching my brother play there in the late 80's and watching them destroy Jerry Rice's Mississippi Valley team in the playoff's on the way to the Div. II national title game.

He should be able to recruit well at Cal..... Great new facilities and stadium, lots of in state talents, (more than enough for all the California teams). The promise to a recruit wanting to play offense that you play on a team that scores 60 points in warmups will attract some athletes.... Defense as usual will be the problem....

Cant compete w stanford??  Has there been some kind of change im not aware of these things work in cycles but prior to luck/2010 cal beat stanford 7 out of 8 years.  If they cant compete w stanford any longer then that is quite a regression.  Think dykes was a poor hire.  W a tex tech and cal background, have seen enough of these offense only coaches.   Think the guy from san jose state would have been much better hire.  Dont know if tcu or boise state coaches were available but think they would have been better also.

d-up i love ya bro but i'm gonna call you on the carpet on this statement. I NEVER said RG3 would be a bad qb. I said qb's shouldn't imo have long hair. And if you find that as well packers is white and RG3 is black so he's picking on him because he's black your wrong. When Rodgers took over for Favre in 08 in his 1st press conference i ripped him for having long hair. I think qb's should look a certain way. No different than ceo's of companies.

How many ceo's of companies have long hair? Its my opinion
