#1 Posted: 12/4/2012 4:17:29 PM I think Auburn settled for Gus Malzahn. He will have to hire a top-notch DC and not keep Trooper and Luper around for me to buy in to this hire. |

#2 Posted: 12/4/2012 4:27:06 PM Yes, they probably did but that job is scary to some because expectations are off the wall, they have to compete directly with Alabama and Saban and there are still possible NCAA sanctions hanging over Auburn's head. But I will say this, I think it's pretty clear now that much of Auburns past success was due to Malzahn and not Chiz. So I think Auburn's offense will be GREATLY improved. The question is weather the defense will suffer? |

I respectfully disagree. Most Auburn fans are not just fans of football. Their life does not go up and down depending on W/L, recruiting, or awards. Most Alabama fans are opp. Auburn does not demand 0, 1, or 2 loss seasons every year. (I feel sorry for whoever coaches at Alabama after Saban). If the program keeps its nose clean and wins 8-12 a year, you keep your job.
He needs a very strong DC hire.

I agree with you. If I were an Auburn fan I would not be overjoyed about the Malzahn hire either. I think the reason they hired him was so they could keep Trooper and Luper. Had they hired a prominent outsider, that coach would have dumped those two scoundrels immediately, and would have demanded full control of the program. That's something I don't believe Pat Dye will ever do.

#8 Posted: 12/4/2012 5:28:32 PM I think this is a business as usual hire, and I don't think that augurs well for the long-term success of Auburn football.

#9 Posted: 12/4/2012 6:15:58 PM I agree that Gus is not really what Auburn needs right now, however I do believe that he was EXACTLY what Arkansas State needed right now and I feel terrible for them.
I was looking forward to Gus developing the Red Wolves into the Boise State of the South. |

#12 Posted: 12/4/2012 7:29:19 PM Only slightly more excited about this hire than I was when they hired Chizik. I can't wait for Jacobs to be gone. |

#13 Posted: 12/4/2012 7:31:57 PM trackem you baby you hit the jackpot. Who'd you think they were getting? You need to run the spread at auburn Malzahn runs the spread. Gus will win at Auburn but no coach is good enough for all of you auburn fans. You should pick him up at the airport. You poor baby Malzahn's your coach |

#16 Posted: 12/4/2012 9:23:36 PM fudgepacker1992, I am not crying. I just said I think Auburn settled.
jwheels and fudge, I am worried, like jimmy said, that it will be business as usual. If you are not familure with the situation, do research or keep your comments to yourself. |

#22 Posted: 12/5/2012 12:12:48 AM Add Malzahn, subtract Loeffler, and Auburn instantly gets better.
Arkansas State is the new cradle of SEC West coaches. |

#24 Posted: 12/5/2012 8:59:33 AM jwheels, I wanted someone who would not be a puppet to Jay Jacobs and Pat Dye. *MAYBE* HCGM will not be. I hope he is not. If he is not, then the hire is much better. If he is, it is business as usual like jimmy said. |
