The SEC may be the best conference, but they don't do a good job proving it. Sure, they won 6 straight national titles, and I'll be shocked if it isn't 7. But Michael Dyer scores on a freak play to beat Oregon, and I don't just want to defend Oregon, I'm saying there are other teams out there dying to take a shot at an SEC team.
Before LSU fans pipe in about how they demolished Oregon. That was our best player, DeAnthony Thomas's, first game. If he doesn't fumble twice, which both turned into scores, it's a completely different game. SEC fans will try to forget that Oregon led LSU at halftime in that game. Also, Oregon was a tackle away from sending the Auburn game into overtime.
To you Big 10 lovers out there, if Blount doesn't kick the ball 30 yards out of the endzone on one of the freakiest possible plays ever, the Ducks probably win the 2010 Rose Bowl. At least they came back to win it in 2012.
I'm not saying Oregon could beat Bama, in fact, I'd probably put the house on Bama. But my point isn't that the SEC doesn't have the best team in the country. It's that SEC biased writers think that their top 5 are better than any other teams in any conference.
I'd love to see Oregon play Georgia, LSU or Florida. Georgia or LSU would be very competitive games, whereas Florida would probably get spanked.
I'm sure Kansas State, Stanford, Northern Illinois and other fans have their claims, which is why the playoff system can't come soon enough. Guarantee the SEC won't win 7 straight then. But then again, it's pretty easy to win a natty when your conference has an automatic bid to the game.
The LSU team that won in 2007 was perhaps the worst national champions team in the BCS era. If there wasn't the flukiest last two weeks, it would have been Ohio State vs Cal or Oregon - when Dennis Dixon tore his ACL on a wide open play, leading Arizona 11-0.
ESPN had the quote of the year when they called out the SEC, saying they lead all conferences with 15 matchups against FCS schools this year. Their UGA Bulldogs canceled a home and home with Oregon, as did Kansas State. If people want to hate on Oregon so much, then don't back out of games. Georgia is supposed to play tough football and represent the so-called best conference around. Then do it, don't cancel against us, so we have to play shit teams like you do.

And if Grandma had balls we'd call her Grandpa! Really just man the fck up and quit crying. Oregon has a good team but they lost to LSU and Auburn. Every time a team loses you can say: well if we don't fumble or our best player- whatever- it works both ways- If Oregon doesn't lose late this year then they play for the National Championship and spank Notre Dame- that's the way it is- everybody bitches about the SEC when their teams lose- Ok. St. lost late last year and it cost them- I can't wait for the playoff myself so all these crying behind grown men can shut the fck up about the SEC being over rated.

Go ahead and keep on betting against the SEC come bowl season. I need someone on the other side of my bets. I love Oregon, I hope they win and I'm an alum of NIU so I'll be rooting for them too. But when it comes to profitable gambling I never ever bet against the SEC powerhouses. Just sayin. Sometimes, hell most times, it is best to just keep your money in your pocket and enjoy the game. I don't think Oregon is as good this year as they have been in the past.

I like both Oregon and Florida. To me they are the two best teams in the country. FL defense just seems to have a way of coming up really big especially in the 2nd half. Either team could win that game. People are writing off ND way too early. I have said for weeks and if you read the article Kiper just wrote ND is the BEST and I mean BEST run defense that Bama has faced ALL YEAR. They give up 10 pts per game. Look at Bama's schedule and you will see why they only give up 9 per game. Look at the 3 good teams they have faced and all 3 teams have more or less lit them up. All 3 teams put up 400 yards on them and Mettenburger looked unreal against them. ND defense is not going to get gashed like Georgia not even close. When you stop Bama's defense McCarron is an average qb and he has shown it in all 3 of those games. Kelly will have his team ready. Saban is a good coach but can't all of a sudden upgrade his talent which is lacking in his defense.

If Oregon played UF you would see their offense shut down like never before. Florida's defense is full of NFL draft picks and with a month to prepare and heal? Oregon's offense would look hilarious
Some people no matter how many times they get taught lessons, never learn them. Florida's defense would absolutely have a field day knocking out ORegon's RB's and QB. When you lose to Stanford, you don't just magically come out against the best defense in the nation and something different happens. I was begging to see this matchup

Florida arguably has the best defense in the country. Given enough time to prepare for Oregon's offense I think they win the game pretty easily. My money would most definitely be on the Gators.

I agree.............playing Oregon is tough if you only get a week to prep, but given a month or more not so much.

2009 Sugar Bowl (Sugar Bowl has an automatic SEC tie - in but Florida was in the title game but they stayed in the SEC and took 12-1 Alabama to face 12-0 UTAH who was a DD dog and the ridicule of SEC fans.
It was 21-0 by the end of the 1st quarter.
21-3 after an improbable 52 yard FG.
UTAH cruised the rest of the way never threatened and won 31-17.
Could the Utes have beaten Florida that year? Oh yeah.

SEC fans were shut up after that one, and hate bringing up this game. The SEC nearly disowned Georgia after getting embarrassed and whalloped by Boise St.. Both of these games were IN THE SOIUTH BTW.

I agree. Oregon could beat a lot of SEC teams with a traditional 1-week prep time including Alabama. But we see this play out almost every bowl season with Oregon. When a good defensive team has extra time to prepare, they are usually pretty successful in slowing down that high-powered Quack Attack. I'm not sure yet how successful K-State's defense will be, but I'm leaning in their direction.
