News has broken. Maryland unamiously accepts the invitation. Rutgers comes tomorrow. Your thoughts?

What a bunch of hypocrites.  They repeatedly blocked South Carolina's efforts to rejoin the ACC because, in their view, leaving the conference was an unforgivable offense.

Well the Big 10 must only be accepting them because of their basketball program.

Their football team has been an absolute joke since the Fridge was forced to retire and they got Randy Edsall.

This Alex Len guy is the real deal, and MD could make some noise this year. However, I don't think they have the program anymore to get recruits that good consistently. Len is a pro prospect and may be gone after this season.

Maryland has some terrible fans though. The students don't care about the football team at all, and only show up for the Duke and Carolina basketball games. True story - Maryland makes you go to the other games in order to earn tickets to the Duke Carolina games.

This is gonna disappoint the students a little bit, cuz the Big 10 is a solid basketball conference, but mainly a football conference. And I don't think MD has the team to ever compete in the Big 10.

yes it is a money grab by the big 10 and maryland/ that's what its about now in college athletics. Genie is out of the bottle. Now if i'm the big 10 i go get florida state get the the florida market

I heard a rumor that Purdue is exploring a possible move to the Venezuelan Fall League.  "We're hoping Los Boilermakeros can open the 2014 campaign in Maracaibo," said Purdue Athletic Director Morgan Burke early Sunday monring.  President Hugo Chavez was not immediately avaialble for comment, but has been known to favor Old Gold and black for this thumb screws.

Glad to see an ACC team jumping ship. The ACC destroyed college athletics when they poached from the BE the first time and then the 2nd time was the last straw.

To see them lose a charter school makes me ecstatic but also because it paves the way for UConn to join the ACC. The ACC started this whole fiasco in the name of football money and now they finally have to deal with one of their own jumping ship.

I also wouldnt be surprised to the SEC go after 2 ACC schools. Clemson and FSU were target last year.

Eventually there will be 8 conferences of 16 teams.

I am a Maryland allumi and we do have a big following the the D.C. metro area. I think the competition is too tough in the ACC for the Terps that's why we are going out to the big ten.

That was an academic decision.  Believe it or not, that's the #1 criteria in these conference shifts once a finacially beneficial school is identified and "targeted" for expansion.  A lot of schools will bring in extra money and a new fan base, but the academics must be there as well.

Florida State is one of the worst academic schools of all the BCS conferences.  The Big Ten is the most prestigous conference in terms of academics, therefore FSU stands a snowflake's chance in hell of ever being considered.

jpero FSU and clemson will never see the SEC florida and s.carolina will tie that in court for so long it would make your head spin. I don't care about academics FSU to the big 10 lets go all the way with this. Kick another big 10 team out so you would have 14 with FSU

The reason Maryland and other ACC school will never be a power house in football is because of academics. If you don't make the grades you won't play, and imagine football players studying? That's how the SEC is so good, none of these SEC player can read or write. Dexter Manley and many others. I think the SEC go recruit in the hoods
