#26 Posted: 8/21/2012 9:21:33 PM Is Laten Settle still a running back at NIU. He was a beast in high school? |

#27 Posted: 8/21/2012 10:18:17 PM The name does not ring a bell. Cameron Bell has been taking a lot of reps in preseason. A spectator today said NIU looked much better today on offense. Lynch has a GUN for an arm, much stronger arm than Harnish and is supposed to be a better runner than Chandler.
He does have some decent experience and I know he is a good runner.

#28 Posted: 8/21/2012 10:23:25 PM FYI- notes from NIU scrimmage
his comes as no surprise, but it the Northern Illinois first team
defense was impressive during Saturday's scrimmage at Huskie Stadium.
The group got pressure. The unit stopped the run and didn't allow much
in the passing game either. After the scrimmage, Doeren said he liked
what he saw from the defense and said they should be ahead of the
offense now with what they have coming back.
Here are a few more notes and observations from Saturday's scrimmage:
• Wide receivers Martel Moore and Perez Ashford didn't participate, but
don't worry. Doeren knows what they can do and wanted to see some of the
younger receivers. He doesn't want to risk injury either.
• Leighton Settle was in pads but didn't see any action. Doeren said he's "a little banged up."
• The running back that was the most impressive was true freshman Keith
Harris Jr. out of Chicago Leo. He got a chance because Doeren was
disappointed with the production from the running backs, and Harris
showed something, scoring three touchdowns, including one with the first
team. He looked fast, and was tough to bring down. Doeren said it's
still too early to decide whether he'll redshirt or not.
• None of the other running backs did much. Akeem Daniels got the
majority of the first-team snaps, which has been the case throughout
camp. Jamal Womble got more first-team reps than I've seen him get
during the preseason, probably due to Settle's injury. |

SMU +10.5 - Baylor lost a lot of talent on offense obviously with QB Rg3, WR Kendall Wright and starting RB all leaving. They still have some talent offensively but it should be a big drop off from last year. And once again, the defense should be pretty poor. SMU also lost their QB but they have the Texas transfer Garrett Gilbert coming in and their top RB and WR back. The defense isn't great but was 2nd in Conf USA last year and returns all 4 of its starting linebackers. |

Clemson -3 - I know Clemson's top receiver Watkins is out but they still have their no. 2 guy Hopkins who almost had 1000 yards as well last year plus their top RB. And of course their great QB Boyd returns. Auburn does return a lot of starters but they lost one of their QBs who played quite a bit and their top RB. I think Auburn's ranking in top 25 is more about how they did 2 years ago because they weren't that great of a team last year. I think their defense could be slighty better than Clemson's but Clemson has a much better offense with Boyd and their skill players. |

Alabama -13 - I orginally liked Michigan since I love Denard Robinson and Bama lost a lot of NFL talent. Alabama just seems to reload, however, and they should have a top 2 defense in country maybe with just LSU ahead of them. Plus they still have a very efficient QB with McCarron and even though they lost Richardson they always seem to plug in a new back who will put up big numbers. Michigan should also have a top 10 defense but their offense could take a step back with losing their top WR Hemingway. Robinson is a very exciting player but 20 tds and 15 ints and only 55% passing isn't very efficient. I like McCarron's numbers better 68% 16 tds only 5 ints. |

#37 Posted: 8/26/2012 4:08:45 PM Love your Clemson play. Im on them as well. Also love your SMU play. 10.5 is waaay too many for a Baylor squad without RG3. Defense is just friggin terrible. I honestly have no clue what the linemakers were thinking with that one. Also like your lean on your Cougs plus the points as I am on that as well BOL this season! |

#39 Posted: 8/26/2012 4:47:10 PM Nice work JDN on getting the SMU line early. I'm going to be on the Cougs for sure but I'm just waiting on seeing if the line moves to 14. It will probably stay where it is but just in case I am going to wait a little bit. |

#41 Posted: 8/26/2012 4:52:46 PM i think new OC greg davis will help iowa, but at Texas he had a few good moments and a lot of predictable east west play calling...I need to see what Iowa does to N Illinois before I get behind Iowa... |

Washington State +13 - Oops was waiting to see if line would move to 14 and it moved the other way. A website I follow called predictionmachine.com actually has us higher in their power rankings than BYU. I'm pretty confident with Leach's offense and the talent we bring back with our QB Jeff Tuel and WR Marquess Wilson we will have a top 5 passing offense in country and possibly a top 10 offense overall. Yeah our defense isn't going to be good but I think we will score a lot of points and we certainly can keep it within 13 of BYU.

Louisiana Tech +7 - Yeah I screwed up by not grabbing this at 7.5. So for A&M no Tannehill at QB and they also lost their top RB, but the whole Oline returns so offense could still be decent. I just don't think A&M's defense will be very good at all. They gave up a lot of points last year. Louisiana Tech was a team that flew under the radar last year. They lost their first 4 out of 5 but they lost to Houston, Southern Miss and Miss St all by 7 points or less. Then they finished season winning 7 in a row including road wins at Utah St, Nevada and Ole Miss before losing by only 7 to TCU in the bowl game. So all of last year they only had one loss by more than 7, their only bad loss by 18 vs Hawaii. They return their QB and their top receiver Patton who had over 1000 yards last year. |

Navy +15 - Guess I better jump on this before the line moves any further. With Notre Dame's starting QB Rees and starting RB Wood suspended this is a good opportunity for Navy to give the Irish a good game. |

Michigan State -6.5 - This is a popular pick on the forum but I agree that Boise just lost way too much talent from last year. |

Eastern Michigan +3.5 - This seems like kind of a trappy line since you would figure Ball State would be favored by more than this at home. Ball St did lose it's top 2 receivers so I think its offense will take a step back. Eastern has all its top skill players back so its offense should be improved but maybe not as good as Ball St's. But I do think Eastern should have a better defense than Ball St which makes these teams pretty even. I'm thinking this will be a close game and if Ball St wins hopefully it's by just a field goal. |
