Mettenberger has 92 career passing yds at LSU.
slow down bro, you're talking to a guy (me) who has followed college football religiously for 30 years. i know way too much than to start calling guys great who have not taken any meaningful snaps in games
Mettenberger will be nowhere close to as good this year as you think
book that
For someone who has been following college football for 30 years, you display spectacular ignorance. I wish I was your bookie.
Mettenberger was the #3 ranked pro-style QB in the nation coming out of high school in 2009, and qualified as one of the Elite 11 QBs.

Had it not been for an arrest that got him kicked out of Georgia, he almost certainly would have beaten out Aaron Murray for the starting QB position. During the time they were competing for the starting QB position, Murray was running a distant second to Mettenberger.
At 6'5" and 230 lbs, Mettenberger has prototypical NFL size. Barring some unforseen injury or arrest, unlike his predecessors, he will be playing on Sundays for an NFL team.
Mettenberger probably has the strongest arm in all of college football. He is basically a Ryan Mallet clone - huge arm, but lacks mobility (hence his knickname "Pillsbury Throw Boy"). His statue-like presence in the pocket probably won't prove to be much of a liabilty however, given that he will be working behind one of the best offensive lines in the country.
Mettenberger represents a huge upgrade for LSU at the QB position. With Mettenberger's ability to stretch the field with his howitzer of an arm, LSU's running game will be that much more lethal this season.
With the exception of Alabama, LSU will be far superior to every team on their schedule. Moreover, they will be the favorite in all 12. The only games that have any chance of being remotely competitive are South Carolina, Florida, Alabama, and maybe Arkansas. Personally I would not include Arkansas on the list because the Razorbacks cannot come anywhere close to matching up with LSU in the trenches. I really don't see how that game will be close.
LSU will not even be in four close games this season, much less lose four games, and Mettenberger will be one of the primary reasons for many of the blowouts.
