I for one, am in favor of this new system. I think that this format is great for many reasons. I can break it down into 3 points in which I think that most of us college football junkies can all agree on.
1. The Regular season is so important in our sport. What makes this sport so great is the fact that every week does matter. Trust me, if every week didn't matter the anticipation of every game would lose it's luster. The fact that we all can go to the games knowing that this could be the week that knocks us out of a championship or a conference title means so much. The actual build up of every game is what separates this sport from every other sport in the world. Game Day on Saturdays are sacred.
2. 4 is just enough. I think we all could make a argument for 8 and I for one wouldn't mind 8...but absolutely no more than that. Why? The product is important. What you say? The Product means so much. We dont want our product being deluded, we cant have it watered down. It's important that we dont let too many come to the big dance. This isn't Basketball people. This is a physically dominate sport that separates the ( haves...from the have not ) What im telling you is you cant take the 28th team in the country and think they can catch lighting in a bottle and go through a bracket and become the champion. Im sorry, that's just a fact. Trust me.... you can make the argument that Oklahoma S.T or Stanford or Oregon or Wisconsin was good enough. But to say the 28th ranked North Carolina Tar Heels for example would have been good enough to compete with Alabama on any day. Cause Alabama beats them 100 out 100 times.
3. The Bowls. We get to keep them. Look if your a fan of college football you have to love the bowl games. I do, I love the bowls. It's something that is a staple of the Holidays IMO. Plus it really does get to give back to the players. It is a reward. The fact that everyone gets a shot at some type of post season is rewarding.
Guys, there are no losers in this agreement IMO. College football is the greatest sport.

well boom i was fine either way with whatever they wre going to do because at the end of the day we're all gonna watch, bet and comment on here about it. My only thing about 4 is i don't wanna see 3 teams from the same conference in the playoff. Otherwise i like it.
As far as bowls There's probably too many. I can do without the Idaho potato bowl my self. I like it 4 was the most we're getting.
My other complaint why in the hell did notre dame have a seat at the meeting? Notre Dame isn't relevant. If they want a seat join a damn conference. BYU,Army and Navy didn't get a seat. Notre Dame join a league any league for the love of god. Otherwise its a step in the right direction

I want the 4 best teams in, regardless of same conference or not. My problem is the perception of the public. What I mean is the average Joe thinks that just because ESPN says a 2 loss team from the SEC is better then a 1 loss or undefeated team from another conference is better.....then its the gospel. Wrong. The influence about perception in this sport is awful. I say it every year, good football is played every, they just have to pull there arrogant conceded asses out to see it. )

I agree with your 3 points, but I'll give you my reasons why I don't want a playoff, but I do like 4 teams a lot more than 8+ teams.
1) In the NFL, teams can prepare a gameplan in 1 week, because they the players have higher football IQs and they have no distractions. In college, it could take 6 weeks. With a 4 team playoff, teams don't have 6 weeks to prepare for the BCS championship game like they would without it. I'd prefer to see the first round of the playoffs in mid December, to give teams time to prepare for the chamionship game.
2) Travel. For the fan that travels to the games, now you might have to make 2 crosscountry trips to watch your team. I think you are going to see some empty seats in the first round games like you see a lot of times for NCAA tournament Sweet Sixteen games.
3) Fatigue. This goes with point 1, but is the best football going to be played after a brutal grudge match in the first round?
4) Even with 4 teams, there are going to be cases when teams will play each other at the end of the year, and they'll know that win or lose they will both have a spot in the playoff. So, instead of what would be the best game of the regular season, it is now a worthless game when each team might sandbag
Personally, my plan would be to set criteria (wins, strength of schedule, Conference Champion, etc) that teams have to meet to be in the BCS mix. If there are two such teams, put them in the BCS game. If there are 3 or more, let them play qualifying games in the middle of December until you have two teams.

1st off i've said for a long time N.Dame can join any league. But more people older than i am with big platforms. such as Tim Brando who have said N.Dame isn't relevant. 3:30 on NBC isn't the holy grail. Tulsa plays at 3;30. Kids today could give 2 craps about Touchdown jesus or the gipper they want to play for a nat'l title something you won't do at N.Dame
Boom i love ya man but just because i'm young doesn't mean i don't know. Age doesn't make you smarter

thorpe i hate to be "that guy" but none of this is for the fans. Its for tv revenue. TV money changed the game a lot of these games have a bunch of suits there anyway. I don't have a problem either way with it

all solid points.
Travel is a big thing for this sport. Why? College football is a regional thing for the most part. Whereas in the Professional sports anybody any where can be a fan. Take for exapmple me, Im a Golden S.T Warriors fan... LOL, Why would anybody in South Carolina be a Golden S.T fan??? Funny I know. But it's the difference between college sports and professional sports. So yeah, great point.... travel matters for alot of reasons. I cant take my family across the country 2 times a year to watch Clemson play. I just cant. So who fills the stadiums? Somebody has to.
I agree with all

You might have took that the wrong way. What im saying is the Notre Dames voice is actually huge. Why? Because they are Notre Dame. I dont like them... but it is what it is. The 3:30 games, whatever. If NBC pays your team 1 billion dollars to play @ 3:30 on Saturday... Guess what??? Then you do it. Every team in the country would do it.

I don't like it.. though it will really depend on what the committee says..
1- there will always be biases with the committee 2- Will SOS be a huge part or not? If no, this kills any good chance of solid OOC games because why would teams risk it? 3- The semis at the bowls will be decided before the final 4 are picked- so what happens when #4 LSU plays in the Sugar vs a #1 seed.. 4- People say the committee will be more open with their decision- what does the CBB selection chair really say? He's not specific, doesn't talk about teams or conferences- not sure we're going to get anymore transparency on why teams were selected than we currently have

I thought you would have liked it buddy... Is it the committee that's the biggest problem? I agree I dont like the human element... but we cant have the perfect system here... I think it's better then what we had...wouldnt you agree it is better?

Overall I like the new system. I think the human element will get it right more times than not and the four best teams are the right way to go. I mean honestly, if we had this system last year, are you people really going to tell me that Bama and LSU should not have both been in because they played in the same conf?
Though one thing does scare me, the money. we all know that our beloved sport is now completely driven by the dollar and that's fine, welcome to America. i am scared that once they see the spike in revenue from going to a four team playoff, they will look to the opportunity that an 8 team or 16 team playoff would bring. there is no denying that it would bring more money and all the good reasons in the world will not stop it.
Lets be honest, the BCS was an upgrade from the prior system (no one meets at the end and we pick a winner). and this system, whether you think it is perfect or not, is an upgrade from the BCS

I like 4 teams in...........but I'd like to know EXACTLY how they are going to choose them. If it's the current bcs with some tweaks to eliminate favoritism then OK............as far as the travel goes, there's gonna be some fans that would go to China twice to see their team play, others that just can't. But there's going to be butts in the seats. Just like going to a Super Bowl......there's gonna be people attending these games that may not be fans of either team. Hell, I went to the Insight Bowl a couple years ago (Mizzou/Iowa......fuck you Gabbert) just because I could.
Notre Dame? I haven't been excited about watching them except for when I've faded them, which has been a # of times over the L5 years. I don't give a shit how much NBC paid for them to be on the tube, I'm usually watching another game. I don't dislike them, I really just don't care about them, regardless of history. I do give them credit for the schedule they play as it's rarely the MAC-filled, all-at-home ooc schedule we've learned to expect from ohio st.......... I'll concede that cfb is better as a whole when ND. is a factor.
I like this scenario............EVERY game still means something & 1 loss doesn't necessarily render the season "over"............& if there is an added emphasis on SOS (like there should be), then maybe we'll still see some marquis ooc games BECAUSE teams will feel that an ooc loss vs a tough team (early on) won't kill them.

"No. 1 will play No. 4, and No. 2 will play No. 3 on Dec. 31 and/or Jan. 1. The sites of those games will rotate among the four current BCS bowls - Rose, Orange, Fiesta and Sugar - and two more to be determined. One of the new sites will likely be wherever the newly formed bowl created by the SEC and Big 12 is played, Slive said.
The Cotton Bowl, played at the $1.1 billion Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, has long wanted to be part of the BCS and is expected to make a strong push to be in the semifinal rotation.
The winners of the semis will advance to the championship on the first Monday in January that is six or more days after the last semifinal. The first ''Championship Monday,'' as it was called in the BCS release, is set for Jan. 12, 2015.
The site of the title game will move around the way the Super Bowl does, with cities bidding for the right to host.
The teams will be selected by a committee..."
The committee is a bad idea IMO. Unless they fill the committee with oddsmakers, how are you going to find knowledgable enough people without biases?

Jerry Jones will get a piece of this action and should.
I still think now that perhaps bowl games other than the playoffs mean even less, we should have more bowl games in the cold.
Bring the warm weather teams to the cold to even the playing field a bit. Would love to see Alabama vs Sparty at Soldier or something.
I know it wont happen, but i think for at least a few years you could fill seats if you do it right and play at the right venues. (domes, lambeau, soldier, yankee stadium etc)
def would be unique and give our friends down south a chance to experience what its like to be a man when watching a football game.

Great
thread Boom.I agree w/ your three
points: regular season, 4 teams and bowls. When I think back to the old days (pre-BCS), when the bowls determined
the national champion, I ask the question: was there ever a year where
after the bowls truly the best team in the country was not among the top
4 as ranked after the bowls?I’ve
been following CFB for close to 40 years and in honesty I can say no,
never.Same w/ the BCS – we can all
argue about selection into the BCS NC game – but can any of us say that the
best team in the country was not among the top 4 as ranked after the bowls and
BCS title game?I think not – in each
and every year, the best team was among the top 4, regardless of who was
crowned BCS champion. So, top 4 is good.Bowls are good. The only issue is
selection of the top 4.
For
myself, I favor something that takes into consideration the issues of when you
lose and how.I think it is axiomatic
that a 3 point loss on the road to a conference/division rival in September is
a universe of difference from a 4 TD blowout loss in late November. Thus, no way in hell should Oklahoma have
played LSU in the 2003 title game, no matter what, BCS rules at the time
notwithstanding. (And no, I don’t hate the Sooners; have a lot of respect for
the history and accomplishment of that program.)
The
truth is, every year at the end of any CFB season there are going to be a slew
of very good one-loss teams who played good competition throughout the year.
Some years you will have *one* undefeated team
at end of year worthy of consideration (sorry, going undefeated in the Sun Belt
doesn’t get you there). This is why I like the human, subjective element in the
final decision; whether by committee, or poll either without bias or large
enough where biases cancel themselves out (i.e., such as the AP), or even the
BCS process, where combination of polls/computers.
The real question is: does the final 4 truly contain among them the best team in the country AT THE
END OF THE SEASON.It is the
intellectual basis upon which ALL playoffs are predicated.Nobody cares, for example during March
Madness, if Team A defeated Team B in January: if Team B beats them in the
tourney they advance & can win the national championship because they
determined it on the court in the playoff. Nobody argues this.Nobody says, ‘well Team A beat them in
January, therefore they should be crowned co-champion.’It’s absurd. How you play and who you beat at the end of the year trumps all else:
who cares if you lost two months before – except in CFB it’s often treated the
same, and it’s a mistake.Same with any
other sport: NFL; NBA; MLB; NHL; all sports that have legitimate playoffs -
when you lose matters.
With
that said: four teams; keep the bowls; allow a subjective element to reward
who’s playing best at the end of season regardless of whether they have
identical records w/ some consideration of SOS so the undefeated
Sun Belt team doesn’t make its way into the championship (computers do this
best); that’s the way to do this thing right.

Great
thread Boom.I agree w/ your three
points: regular season, 4 teams and bowls.

So what happens when there is a controversy between the 4th and 5th best teams in the country? It'll be like #1 and #2 all over again. You know it's going happen.
Instead of four teams, why not expand it to conference champions? Makes a whole lot more sense and it'll eliminate whatever controversy that might arise from it.
Great thread and opinions.

Florida would forfeit , since they are not allowed to leave the South East
