#5 Posted: 1/15/2012 9:00:38 PM I think that Matt Miller will be special for the Broncos during the next three years. Other than that I don't see where there is much to get excited about in 2012 for Boise State fans.Plus the Broncos will have a new OC for the third year in a row.
I would be inclined to take MSU -7 1/2. If Chris Petersen finds a way to again get this team to another 11 win season it will be his greatest coaching accomplishment ever (and that's saying alot). |

#6 Posted: 1/15/2012 9:34:49 PM I also like S.Miss. +11.
The last time that the 'Huskers took the field, their offense was pretty much held in check by an Ellis Johnson engineered defense as they lost 30-13 to the Gamecocks in the Capital One Bowl. Now Johnson is the HC at Southern Mississippi and he will get his shot at Nebraska to open the season with the Golden Eagles returning alot of talent. |

Boise has had some of their best recruting classes ever the last couple of seasons, so they should be able to plug some of their holes with some fairly talented guys.

#20 Posted: 1/17/2012 3:15:48 AM Bama -8 is like manna from heaven. I doubt it holds up though. Anything south of 14 should will be a green light for me . I'd love to see it stay under 10 however.
Alabama will employ what I now call the "Tebow defense" against Denard. They did the same thing to JJ the other night. Saban just feasts off of running QBs who don't throw the ball well.
The Tebow defense is for all four rushers to maintain their lanes and contain the QB in the pocket. The same thing I said about JJ before the LSU game applies here as well. Tebow, JJ and DR are least effective when they have to throw from the pocket. They are most dangerous when they break contain.
JJ broke contain one time last week, and he picked up 18 yards. That was the play that finally got the Tigers across the midfield, and I think it was the best play LSU had all night.
Saban will force DR to beat him making plays from the pocket. He will be more than happy taking his chances with DR throwing the ball from the pocket into his ball-hawking secondary.
Just like I've said about every single Bama game this season, so is it with this one as well. I just don't see Michigan scoring many points in this game. This is probably something like a 34-10 type score, if Michigan even scores that many.

#21 Posted: 1/17/2012 3:18:18 AM Boise vs Mich St....
*let's get this one out of the way........
You NEVER look to fade Boise....IN THIS TYPE GAME *as a home favorite....vs a team they have beaten like a rug for years.....sure
but here ...when not expected to be much.....vs a team that has disappointed...when expectations were high? better be VERY careful.........
Broncos lose a ton....(7 players invited to NFL Combine..... no talent?)........return 5/3 or so besides obvious ....also lose OC (to Gators)...ST coach (to Wazzu)....and DB coach (to A&M)
Main issues are ......QB (no garbage)......LT......DE.......and Safety .....and punter
others not as bad as you might think.....one thing that Peterson likes to do is play a lot of people....so many have played a lot of snaps.....Broncos rotate a lot on DL/LB *Peterson does not discuss injuries...and they were off the radar a lot mid-season.......so most don't realize they were really banged up....(OL...DB esp)
QB?...doesn't look like that Joe Southwick is the man to me....unless he improves a ton......best bet maybe incoming Fr Nick Patti (5-11/190.....4.49)...the Florida 8A Player of the Year.....arrives on Boise campus today in fact....too short to get many offers.....was going to Michigan when RR was there.....UCLA only big school that offered ........besides USF and UCF seems like.....
DJ Harper was granted another year.....so will return at RB....and could be pushed by Soph Jay Ajayi....if he stays outta jail (last seen busted for stealing sweats at Wal-Mart)......huh?
OL really returns 3 that started/played a lot..... RT Leno and LG Kellogg full time.....C Yriarte started 8 when that Thomas Byrd got hurt.........
Most WR's are back....they lose Shoemaker and TE Effaw....but get FB Dan Paul back (injured all year with groin...ouch)........should be much better here actually...if they find someone to get them the ball
Defensively ...replacing the entire starting DL/LB...is never good but replacements are not bad at all....DL bigger....260 > 315 - 315 < 280 *Boise recruited heavily here last few (as well as OL).....preparing ahead for big losses (2012) in trenches ......
Secondary returns 30 starts or so (Boise runs 4-2-5).....and should be fine
Spartans with 5/8 or so back.....including 4/5 OL and most productive RB Bell....they do lose one of the best QB/WR tandems in school history in Cousins and Cunningham..... due to injuries mainly....MSU didn't run all that well LY.....ranking 11th in B10......
Defense is one of the nation's best.......(maybe THE best) ...returning 9/12 tacklers........including that beast DE Gholston
MSU with C Michigan next..Boise with bye.... so far
Both should struggle to move it....MSU seems like the obvious choice here.....with great D + strong OL and very good RB......Broncos with way too many question marks ....
BUT.....gotta go with Boise here....in a small leap of faith that Coach Pete will get it done.....yet again......as we have seen them do many times before...in other situations where they were (seemingly) at a talent/match-up disadvantage....
this one should be a very low scoring game.....UNDER....maybe looks like the best play (1H maybe better)....with a strong lean/small play on Boise........... ............

#22 Posted: 1/17/2012 10:05:54 AM Bookie, Mich St also loses Jerel Worthy early to the NFL which is a huge loss IMO. I think he is one of the better DTs.

#24 Posted: 1/17/2012 1:54:18 PM Some props are up too. Look at the juice on Bama/Oregon USA Today. This line did not move after Thomas declared which makes me think he would not have won the starting job next year.

maybe once school starts....the weekday travel may make it tough to focus....but here wouldn't worry
Unless the new Boise QB can (unexpectedly) really throw....don't see how they move it much Boise D usually is very tough vs the run (in these type games) .....they will run a multiple front D....and attack from all angles ...and unless new QB Maxwell is just instantly very good ...they shouldn't do much either
