I would just like to remind everyone that the national title game will be played a bit sooner than originally scheduled. The venue has chnaged as well. On November 26th 2010, the top ranked Auburn Tigers will be traveling to Tuscaloosa, AL to face the No.2 ranked Crimson Tide of Alabama in what is sure to determine almost without a doubt who the best team in the nation is. Alabama made a late charge after convincing wins against 12 LSU as well as 21 Miss St. Alabama did receive some help in getting to where they are now in the standings thanks to a trio of week 9 upsets. first you had Michigan State and Missouri losing their midafternoon road games, subsequently eliminating both from BCS discussion. Then you had the biggest of the three upsets with Oregon falling to USC in a dramatic overtime win, 46-39, effectively knocking them out of a spot in the title game. The game turned on a dime when 2 sudden 4th-quarter turnovers by Oregon. Oregon converted both into TDs cutting into a 17 point deficit. USC forced only their 3rd three and out all game at the best possible time, leaving the door open for Barkley drive down the field and attempt a GD to push it into OT. USC had every single bit of emotion and momentum in the state of California by that point and started OT with a TD. Oregon was unable to convert a 4th down from the 7 yard line, and well, that was that.
Meanwhile, Alabama players were watching this unfold on TV while on their bye week. Alabama went into their bye ranked 7th, and came off their bye ranked 4th. All Alabama had to do from there was beat LSU at night in Baton Rouge as well as Miss St. Beating these 2 ranked SEC west opponents both by 2 scores each made Bama easily jump non AQ teams TCU and Boise St.
On the other side, we have the upstart story of the year, Auburn. We cant start to describe what the Tigers have done this year without mentioning the main reason why we are most likely even talking about them in the first place, Cameron Newton. On top of shattering multiple SEC, school, and FBS records, some having lasted for more than 40 years. He is the clear cut Heisman frontrunner by a mile at 6 6, 250. He has the build of a linebacker, the speed of a running back, one of the most efficient and highest rated QBs in the nation. Thanks to him Auburn survived many close calls against teams USC, Miss St, Arkansas, LSU, Clemson, Kentucky, and Georgia. While a lot of their wins have been close, the important thing is that that at the end of the day, its still a win. they have the second toughest schdule up to this point, only trailing guess who, Alabama.
Dont tell me this doesnt have a good chance of happening. Just having a little fun, but if it does in fact play out like this then their rankings will be right going into the Iron Bowl. I would feel safe in saying this could be deemed the unofficial national championship game. The SEC takes home their 5 national title in a row. Watch and see
