51-29-3 total (includes 6-0 on team totals, 5-2 game totals, and one sad $15 ML parlay to win $900...which I lost, of course, because parlays are money burners. )
I did not realize totals were hitting so well. I'll have to make an effort to get a couple in each week...
South Carolina +6 @ Arkansas
I don't expect S Carolina to lose the turnover battle this week after gagging the game away in the first quarter last week. True, S Car has been sloppy for awhile and it caught up to them vs a solid team. When I bet Arky games, I look at their opponents pass defense. When Mallett is pressured, he throws INT's and poor passes. He also lets bad plays effect the next play. Scar's secondary is young as hell but also talented as hell. They have a solid pass defense. (I wish they got a little more pressure on the QB and tackles for loss...no play is perfect.)
Arkansas's secondary is still trash...whuppin' EMU doesn't make that go away. I like Spurrier's chance to come up with a plan that works and gets points on the board. I also like S Car to clean up their mistakes...even if it's just for a week.
Kansas -2' @ Kansas State
At only -2', I'm basically picking the winner of the game. Kansas wins. Their run defense should handle KSU. Meanwhile, K State's pass defense won't stop Reesing & Co.
North Carolina State -7 @ Maryland
This smells like a game everyone will be on so I got in early. I think Russell Wilson abuses the MD secondary. Coach Fridge is already thinking about next year. He won't necessarily bench QB Turner, but he's wants a look at the backup.
Hopefully, backup Jamar Robinson gets a lot of snaps...because Chris Turner finally found a secondary he can get some yardage against.

#3 Posted: 11/1/2009 7:39:09 PM Oops...
It's Maryland at NC ST...not the other way around...sorry...
Kent State -3 @ Akron
Kent St lost a tough game to Akron last year and this looks like a legitimate revenge situation. KST has been playing very well the past 3 weeks and Akron has been waiting for a QB to answer their ad. I don't think anyone answered the ad yet.
FIU @ MTSU -13
I usually leave the MAC and SBC alone but these look like good bets. FIU CB Gaithers is one of the top CB's in the SBC, and he may be out this week with an injury. Per collegeinjuryreport, He reinjured an already bum shoulder. Even if he plays, he's not 100%. The MTSU offense probably already had a big advantage this week...it just got bigger.
BYU -13 @ Wyoming
Yeah, I know...I say I'm careful about road faves and then what do I do.... it's Road Faves week at Syr LJ's thread.
BYU dominates the series history. BYU has a hole or two in pass defense but Wyoming's offense isn't experienced enough to take advantage of the holes. Wyoming has the same solid defense...unfortunately for Wyoming, it's the same defense BYU dominates every year.

Thanks.
I think I finally understand totals...which has to be said as humbly as possible for fear The Gambling Gods will strike my bankroll dead.
Good luck this week!

#11 Posted: 11/3/2009 4:47:21 PM wahoo: I thought jumping on Sunday evening lines was the key to fame and fortune! I guess it only makes me part of the few who jump on early lines. Eh...I'll settle for fortune if it continues to work in my favor.
kittsd; Thanks, good luck to you to and your plays.
Scorsese; Thanks!
topperchris; Haven't looked at that game because I don't think I can trust UConn...they've got to be emotionally beat after the past 3 weeks. They need that bye week that's coming up after Cincy. I will consider them after the bye...they get to get their legs back, their heads back on football (as much as possible), and the visit to ND will really help their focus.

Anyone looking to bet on Pittsburgh this week probably has a good bet. Every single player at Syracuse has been suspended, kicked off the team or had season ending surgery this week.
From the local website:
Torrey Ball, Antwon Bailey, Andrew Tiller and Mike Williams were in
a Ford SUV that Tiller was driving. A tractor trailer rear-ended the
Ford at 5:30 a.m. in the town Lenox at mile marker 259.1, state police
said.
SU football coach Doug Marrone today announced Bailey, Tiller and Ball were suspended. Williams quit the team on Monday.
Bailey and Ball are dressed for today's practice.
The crash was entirely the fault of the tractor-trailer driver, said
state police Capt. James Land. Nathan Primrose, of Clyde, was driving a
tractor trailer westbound on the Thruway when he came up behind the
vehicle Ball was driving. ________________________________________________________
Coach Marrone never gives public explanations for dismissals or suspensions. the early suspicion was they were at Turning Stone Casino but that's not the case because the casino is East of Syracuse and Lenox, NY is West.
Not a hint of alcohol...maybe a curfew violation of some sort...getting run over by a tractor trailer will make you miss curfew. |

Oops. I was wrong...(This part is for you local people...I only glanced at a map and thought Oneida Lake was Lake Ontario...dumb mistake...should've expanded the view a bit and it would've been obvious.)
Lenox is in just the right spot to be near Turning Stone. So a visit to the casino could really be a reason for the suspensions.

#17 Posted: 11/3/2009 6:23:30 PM Oklahoma @ Nebraska UNDER 42
If I lose this it'll be a learning experience: Don't bet the under in a Big 12 game unless it's TX vs OK.
USC @ Arizona State UNDER 46'
USC takes out frustration on ASU. However, I think they'll win a 26-3 type game and dominate defensively. They still have a frosh QB on the road and the coaching staff has to keep him from making mistakes. USC may find a little success vs ASU's rush D, but ASU will win some of the battles in the trenches.
New Mexico +28 -120 @Utah The Utes are a tough, physical, team that will try to grind out a 17 – 23 point win. I'd like to think Utah will be thinking of TCU next week but they're too well coached to look ahead.
It's just not Utah's style this year to blow teams out by 4 TD's. Maybe next year...

As for why I'm not on Pitt...I don't like betting games where I miss the best line (it was 20 now 21'). If Syr somehow only loses by 20, I'll be kicking myself all day Saturday. This seems like the right situation to go against that, but Pitt still doesn't feel like a bet I need to make.

You might want to go easy on posting that record of yours, or you'll have every loon, hater, closet-case, shut-in and stalker on the web in your threads soon. This is what is known as the Nostradamus Effect, and it can be seriously detrimental to your well being. |

#23 Posted: 11/4/2009 6:11:07 PM MaineRoad; Aren't all the haters broke by November?
Actually, I've found that I can keep a low profile if I just give my threads the most boring title possible. The worst possible thread title is the "40-0 last week, 100% on the year" type of title. (exaggerated, of course, for comedic effect...) The crazies flock to those threads.
But, yeah, they did find Nostra. Good advice that I'll keep in mind...
Atlfader. Thanks, Atl.

#24 Posted: 11/4/2009 6:57:02 PM Good work Syracuse LJ,
I am on a few of the same ones you are. I really hate all this chalk and to make it worse road chalk. Just about every game I like has some team giving points and lots of them are on the road.
I am treading very cautiously through this week.
