40-40-5

Another winning week as I went 4-3 and finally get back to .500 for the year.  I had last week pegged and dropped so many winners, it has been that type of year, I'm just having a hard time narrowing down my card this season and finding the best plays.  I hate betting over 7 or so plays a week but that is obviously the formula I need to win each week.  I'm going to be annoyed for a week or so that I dropped UNC, I knew they would have a chance to beat the Hokies and that spread was stupid.  I know I didn't answer some questions from last week's thread and I apologize.  I spent the week on the West Coast and wasn't around.

Random Thoughts

It was a very entertaining week in college foots with some exciting matchups and some National Title contenders trying to keep the dream alive.

The Cardiac Kids from Iowa do it again despite 5 Int's from Stanzi.  They were playing Indiana though, a team UVA beat by 6 touchdowns.  Iowa isn't great, I'm not even sure they are very good but they are an entertaining bunch.  The game in Columbus now appears bigger than ever and we will see if that fraud of a QB Pryor will show up and beat a decent team.

I have to give a shout out to Golden and his troops from Temple, not only did they cover for me this week, they won straight up.  The Owls are now bowl eligible for the first time since 700 BC.  One of the more impressive performances of the week came from their freshman RB Bernard Pierce.  This kid is the real deal, he had 29 carries for 267 yards and TD's.  I know he plays for Temple and most people could care less about Temple but that kid is a good back, I watched the 2nd half of that game and was very impressed.  I wish the Cavs could get Golden and let Groh go.

Case Keenum continues to put up huge numbers in the UH offense.  Houston doesn't play much defense but you have to give the offense some credit.  They had 750 yards and 39 1st downs, those are some huge numbers.  Keenum was an eye-popping 44/54 for 559 yards including 5 TD's (not bad).

The Longhorns of Texas won big in Stillwater despite being outgained by the Cowpokes.  Zac Robinson helped the cause throwing 4 picks and giving Texas a few defensive scores.  The Horns once again average only 3.1 yards per carry and prove that they can't run the football.  The defense is good but I'm not at all impressed with the offense or the offensive line.  The good thing for Texas is the fact that the Big12 is so bad this year that they will get a free pass to the National Title Game.  Ok, let me get this straight Texas fan, you beat OU without their Heisman winning QB by 3 points (when OU had 17 turnovers) and now you play for the National Title?  Wow, impressive!  I have become a Texas fan while living in Houston but facts are facts.  Texas has played nobody and they aren't an impressive team.

Ducks, Ducks, Ducks!  What a show the Ducks put on last night.  They have no argument to play for the title because they lost to Boise State on the field.  I will not even argue for them.  But lets be serious football fans, do you honestly think Alabama would beat that team?  The answer is NO.  When that offense is clicking like it was last night it can't be stopped at the college level, period, end of story.  That was beyond impressive and lets be honest, no team in the country could beat USC by 4 touchdowns.  The Ducks are clicking right now and I would suggest staying out of their way. I can see it now, bettors across the land will be screaming "letdown" next week when they roll into Stanford.  That will be a mistake, that offense isn't going to have a letdown, they are going to give a beatdown.  Coaching performance of the year goes to Mr. Chip K.  I doubted his leadership as a head coach after the Boise loss and the Blount debacle and I WAS WRONG.  I am man enough to admit when I'm wrong, Oregon is quite simply an unstoppable machine right now and they will bury someone in a BCS bowl.  Teams from other conferences have never faced an offense like that and will have no idea what to do with it.

my random thoughts aren't designed for argument's sake, they are my thoughts and this is my thread, if you don't agree then start your own thread with your own thoughts

My Top 10

  1. Florida
  2. Alabama
  3. Cincy
  4. TCU
  5. Texas
  6. Boise St.
  7. Oregon
  8. Iowa
  9. LSU
  10. Georgia Tech

Except for the fact that they somehow made VANDY look competent on offense.

As a texas fan, was a bit frustrated on run play calling----Davis calls way too many side to side runs vs north/south.

Zac Robinson said after the game that is the best defense he has faced in his career----pretty high praise.

Oregon is probably the only top 10 team with a marquee win, so somewhat disagree with you on "who have the Horns played?" comments.  Bama's win against VaTech looks less and less mighty as the weeks go by...and FL's marquee win is a sub par LSU team?
funny thing is all 3 teams have issues on offense, but all 3 have tremendous defenses that give them short fields.

Just a thought Wahoo... when Temple got thrown out of the big east they were thinking of doing away with the program. Then they got Golden and got into the Mac. When I watched them play Penn St. this year they stood up to them and scraped their ass off. I knew it was going to be a better year. Golden is doing a great job there and seems committed. GL and your thoughts are on as usual...

Good job, Wahoos.

Just to echo a few comments from above, Temple has been making me money for weeks now.  Very under the radar and underrated.  A full squad of scholarship players, a good D-Line and a good running game can take you far ...

Oklahoma State out played Texas for the most part but kept shooting themselves in the foot.  Texas's offense wasn't very potent.  Their defense with turnovers definitely won them the game.  The final score certainly doesn't tell you how competitive Oklahoma State was.  The worry I'd have this week with Okie State is having a big let down.  That was a big game Saturday!

That USC line is a joke. So if I understand this right, Cal lays 6.5 @ Arizona St, and now USC is suddenly 4.5 points better than Cal, even though they were favored by 7 (opener) at Cal, making them in the oddsmakers' estimation about 10 better than Cal on a neutral field (realistically more like 13). Riiiiiiight...

However, I don't lay road wood as a general rule, so I'll just root for you on this one Wahoo.

I hate road chalk which is why I dropped GTech and Cincy last week, but this is different here, USC is going to wipe the floor with ASU after that loss to Oregon, this is the best bet on the board in my opinion and I only see a 24 or more point win, ASU is awful, thanks for responding bro, always enjoy your comments

ASU defense is pretty stout, but yes, their offense is awful, that can't be disputed.

If I somehow see a 10 or 10.5 come along, I may hook it and lay my first road chalk of the year on SC. Can't fathom too many scenarios where ASU scores over 17, and SC should muster 4 TDs no problem.
