Derek Jeter is SOOOOOO overrated

This so called Captain of the Yankees is the most overrated player ever in baseball.  He gets paid what ... 20 million dollars a year?  He may have a 320 batting average every year and have 200 hits a year.  Every year he averages bewteen 12-18 home runs a year and 65-80 RBIs a year.  I would say he is the best DEFENSIVE shortstop in baseball period.

HOWEVER, this guy is terrible at hitting.  I know i may sound dumb in saying that b/c he has a 300+ batting average and 200 hits a year but where do these hits come from?  Do they come when I am sleeping or something?  Most of his hits don't even get any runs in. 

If I needed a hitter to hit for the Yankees, Jeter is the LAST person i would choose to be my pinch hitter.  This guy seems to be like a grinding hitter which is how he gets 200 hits a year but this guy is NOT clutch.  Bases loaded tonight with 1 out and what does he do... of course grounds out into a double play.  He did have 2 hits tonight but one of them was an infield single RBI. 

Does this guy ever hit anything besides singles?  I know he is a contact hitter and not a power hitter but this guy gets way more credit than he deserves.  Whenever he comes to the plate, I have to admit he is good at working the count.  He fouls off a lot of pitches but what happens usually?  Oh yea i know, he pops out or hits a ground out to the 3rd baseman or shortstop.  Have u guys seen how many grounders he has hit to 3rd base or SS for outs?  I live in New York so i see it everyday.

I am also sick of people praising how great Derek Jeter is.  Some announcer say if you are a young pitcher and Jeter comes and taps you in your back, you would get the chills.  LOL. 

Again, Jeter is hands down the best defensive Shortstop because of those plays he does and he makes the hardest plays look so simple.  However, his hitting is way overrated.  I do not see anything besides infield singles or walks from this guy.  You know.... come to think of it, I dont think i have ever seen Jeter hit 1 home run his entire career where the moment the ball was hit, he knew it was a home run.  He's always running so fast after a hit.

I know someone who is crazy about Jeter and say how great he is.  I also told him that watch Jeter get no more than 2 hits in this entire series.  I said this before the postseason started.  Guess what, he had  2 or 3 hits?  What was his batting average??  Very low thats what.

At least guys like Johnny Damon, Abreu, Arod, Cano showed a bit of life in these games.  Derek Jeter is a worthless hitter.  Everytime he comes to the plate, i go is he going to ground out or pop out b/c thats what he always does.

Any thoughts or comments?  I know some of you guys have to agree with me.

He hits second in their lineup, thats not an RBI spot of the lineup.

Who cares if he doesn't hit the monster no doubter home run. Thats not his game. He hits for average and is pretty damn good at it. So what if you don't see it, the Yankees fans do, they are the ones who watch all the games throughout the regular season. I think he is a very good hitter though.

As for the hands down best defensive shortstop, I am going to disagree with you there. Omar Vizquel probably still has a better glove and even Adam Everett is awesome with the glove. I'm sure theres more I just can't think of any others off the top of my head at the moment.

Ichiro is a complete different story.  I dont know about how you guys think but Ichiro is a way better hitter than Jeter.  If i see a guy like Ichiro or Jose Reyes coming to bat, I would not feel comfortable because these 2 guys know how to hit.  I consider Ichiro to be the best or 2nd best contact hitter in baseball. 

Whenever he comes to bat, I do get excited because Ichiro finds a way to get on base because of his speed.  Jeter on the other hand... I just ask myself how is he going to get another out.  Jeters infield singles are usually the kind of hits like where u saw last night where he hit the ball to the 3rd basemen.  Ichiro on the other hand outruns those infield singles and of course his but singles look real good.

Look fellas, whenever you ever get a chance to atch Jeter in a live game, just think of what I have said.  He finds a way to work the count constantly fouling off pitches.  He does this better than any hitter i have seen but the problem is that he will ground out to the shortstop or 3rd basemen or pop out.

I was literaly laughing out loud in the 9th inning when the 2 3 and 4 hitters were up for the Yanks b/c the announcers made it sound like a big deal.  I go lol at Yankees captain.  Pop out or ground out and surely enough it was a pop out. And also he hit into 3 double plays this entire series and I really wonder why noone says anything bad about Jeter.  People keep bashing AROD when Arod is clearly the best hitter on the team and even though he doesnt perfrom well in the playoffs,... he performs a heck a lot better than Jeter OFFENSIVELY speaking.

I am from New York City and the Yankees are my favorite team but I just see Jeter as that guy who gets called the Yankee captain because of his NAME or whatnot.  He is not clutch at all when we are talking about his hitting.

A-Rod is a better hitter offensively? Of course he is going  to have more RBI's and Home Runs, thats what his spot of the lineup asks out of him. Jeter bats second, that guy is asked to get on base, hit for average and score runs. Jeter does all of these and does them very well. Jeter did have a bad series, but no way can one bad series ruin your postseason history.

Great thread! I have been saying this all year! Jeter is byfar the most overrated player in the majors. What I find even worse is everyone in New york running A-Rod out of town when he carried the Yanks this year, and everyone being outraged at hime because of his 25 million a year. JETER MAKES 21 MILLION A YEAR!!! That is the worst investment in the history of sports. Look at the stats this year, except for BA (.322 to .314) A-Rod raped Jeter in every category this year and except for RBI please don't give me any of this "its where he hits in the order" bullshit. If Jeter hit in front of Abreu and A-Rod then shouldn't he have a ton of runs? A-Rod had 41 more runs then Jeter this season. Jeter the better baserunner? A-Rod killed him in steals and murdered him in SB% as Jeter got thrown out a pathetic half the time. They had almost identical Fielding Percentages. A-Rod has better range and ask any coach in the league, Jeter takes too many plays off in the field. On some groundballs to A-Rod he won't even back him up because he assumes A-Rod will get it. Bottomline is ask any GM in the league if they would rather have Jeter for 21 million or A-Rod for 25 million, 29 of them would take A-Rod

Give me Jeter over A0Rod any day of the week. Stats for for jackasses. Rings are what counts. How many does Jeter have? A-Rod isn't  a team player and all he cares about is his personal numbers.
