Now for the night games….and again sorry for omitting the ranking....made sure they are all there for tonite's games....
1* Phillies/Marlins over runs….anymore this is the only was I would go after a Phillies game…..they gave me some hope about 10 days ago when they got close to .500, then bam the couldn’t hit in clutch situations throughout games, their starting and relief pitching couldn’t hold leads or avoid giving up early runs. They are stinking it up again…..so as a die-hard Phillies fan, I will not go against them, but be darn sure I won’t be going with them for a while!!!
.2* Pirates w/Vance Worley (2-0, 1.74)…the Bucs are on the move, winning 26 of 40 and making up 5 games on the Brewers in the NL Central. Currently, they are on a 3 game win streak (3 win & @home rule), have won 8 of 10 and are 26-19 @home. Worley has pitched well since coming up, same as he did with the Phillies when they brought him up. In his last start, he pitched 7 strong inns, allowing 7 hits and 1 run courtesy of a HR vs. the Mets. Brian McCarthy (2-10, 5.11) starts for ARIZ, he won his last start, 1st since May 3rd. He allowed 1 ER on 6 hits in 7 inns, his best game since May 21st the 2nd of back to back good starts. The D’backs have lost 3 in a row (again the 3 run rule comes into play with the D’backs 3 losses and away) and they are 20-21 away.
2* Rangers/Orioles under 7.5 runs…..Yu Darvish (8-4, 2.42) vs. Wei-Yin Chen (7-3, 4.19)
3* Tigers w/Max Scherzer (9-3, 3.64)….Scherzer may have turned it around by pitching pretty well in his last 2 starts after giving up 18 ERs in 3 of 4 starts previous to those, allowing 30 hits in only 17.1 inns. The Rays lefty Eric Bedard (4-5, 4.21) is hoping for a comeback season, but he’s been up and down at best. Tigers have won 3 straight (3 win/loss rule), have won 8 of 10 but are only 22-19 @home. The Rays have won 5 straight (last 2 of their BAL series and a 3 game sweep of the Yankees all away) and have won 7 of their last 9 away; 7 of their last 10 total and are 19-24 away….
3* Yankees w/Masahiro Tanaka (11-3, 2.10)….Tanaka had lost back-to-back games for the 1st time this season. Losing his last start on a 9th inning HR with 2 outs and 1-2 on the hitter. The HR has been his Achilles heel all year, allowing 6 of his 13 last month when he went 3-2 with an ERA of 2.19. The Twins Phil Hughes (8-4, 3.58) gets the start vs. his old team. He beat them in NY back on 6/1, allowing 2 ERs on 3 hits and 2 walks in 8 inns, he also had 6Ks, but after that he had some issue for the rest of the month, ending June with a 3-3, 4.10 ERA, In his last 2 starts, he allowed 10 ERs on 19 hits in 12.2 inns w/10Ks. After being swept the last 3 games by the Rays@home, the Yankees have now lost 5 in a row and of 9 of their last 11, however they have a winning record on the road (23-19). The Twins are in the middle of a 7 game home stand, they lost 2 of 3 to the Royals, and lost 7 of their last 10 games….they are 20-19 at home this year.
2* Dodgers w/Zach Greinke (10-4, 2.78)…Greinke had his worth month of the year in June, going 2-3 (team was 2-4) with an ERA of 3.82. He looked good his last start picking up a win vs. the Cards allowing 1 run via HR on 4 hits and 10Ks in 7 inns. In his 1st 10 starts of the season he allowed 13 ERs in 58 inns (2.02) but in his last 7 he allowed 19 ERs in 45.1 inns (3.79 ERA). Rockies lefty Frank Morales (4-4, 5.75) makes his 1st start since 5/31, since he made 8 appearances out of the bullpen. As a starter he was 3-4 with an ERA of 6.03. The Dodgers is another team that plays well on the road (26-16), and much better than at home (22-23), they are back on the road after losing their last 2 vs CLEV and ending up 4-3 on the home stand. The Dodgers had won his 1st 3 away starts but lost 5 of his last 6 including his last 4. The Rockies are opposite, they are much better at home (20-19) than on the road (16-30). They have lost 3 straight and have lost 14 of 18 and 12 of 16 of home…The Dodgers are 13-8 (9-1 away) vs. lefties…
That’s it for today….Good luck to all!!!,
