I have had the Extra Innings Package on TV for years and am considering ditching it for MLB.TV premium. For one it is 70 bucks cheaper than the price directv offers and I can stream it to my tv with no problems. Not a big deal but I hate wasting anything. Then I can have other games on other devices at the same time if I am understanding it correctly? My biggest question: Is there a lag time from the traditional tv broadcast? I know that Gameday Audio on the MLb At Bat App lags about two pitches behind my TV. I don't do a ton of live betting but I don't know that I want to be 40 seconds behind. Thanks to anyone who can answer.

I got the e-mail this week from them too.... I'm debating the premium package so I can watch games on my tablet. I wanted to know if anyone does this and how it is. I'd hate to pay $130 and not be able to watch the games smoothly.

Same boat, Tiger. I want to save the money but I also want superior service, and those little stutters in Internet service can drive you crazy. I don't care about the live betting angle as I almost never do that. More input please, gentlemen.

im not really sure what the extra innings package is, so i cannot really compare what it is like or what the differences are. But i have had mlb.tv package for the past 2 seasons and i absolutely love it. The video doesnt lag and if it is slower than the TV broadcast, it isnt by much. And if you have fast internet at home its totally worth it....i would have it streaming on my phone, ipad and id have the 4 window game going on my 27'' imac....its like a baseball 0rgy. And i think you can stream on your PS3 too i havent tried it yet.

Thanks Ihavenopatience. I am starting to lean toward giving this a shot over the TV package but have not made a final decision. Having my TV, IPad, iPhone and computer I could have three games and a scoreboard all up at once. Like you said that is a baseball orgy and might be worth a little delay compared to the tv broadcast. Plus 200 spring training games this year available as well....
Anyone else with input would be greatly appreciated, I am sure there are more than just myself and Key debating this option.

Just remember whatever state you live in that game is blocked out. I don't have cable at all. I stream a ton of stuff online and for movies/shows I use primewire.

I have had the MLV.tv package through MLB.com for several seasons. At least as of last year you could watch games on several devices at the same time (PS3, I phone, another I phone). I don't really see much of a delay. Sometimes I will see a hold up but I see that on TV as well. As someone else mentioned there are blackouts if you are looking for a local team. Hope this helps, and enjoy the season.

Local blackout is meaningless for me because FSAZ carries all D-backs games anyway. That is probably the reason for most local streaming to be blocked anyway; protect the local broadcaster and his sponsors. Most of the time I wouldn't care anyway as I am not a die hard D-backs fan nor would I even want to watch 100% of their games. I think I will give mlb.tv a try this year. Tiger, what are your thoughts?

BTW guys, if you have been watching in Hi-Def there is a 7 second delay anyway, so if in game betting is your bag you probably need standard analog or digital broadcasts anyway.

Yes I think I am going this route as well. The blackout rules are the same as TV so that is a non issue. We have our local Sports channels to take care of that issue. I looked back at last year and I made a total of 7 live plays all year. Even if it was say 40 seconds behind, there would still be appx 80 seconds more between innings. My thinking now is the opportunity to have a few games going at once is more appealing and beneficial than any delay.

One thing everyone is forgetting is the Fox regional blackouts on the weekends. You're blacked out on Directv Extra Innings and MLB.TV regardless. There are special apps that allow you to 'fake' your location so that MLB.TV isn't restricted to regional blackouts. You can put yourself say in, Canada or Mexcio where regional/national rights do not apply giving you carte-blanche access.

That said, MLB.TV redirected to your TV via HDMI will only give you 30FPS - not the worst picture quality in the world, but not the best. There will also be a 30-40 second delay on MLB.TV compared to live action. MLB.TV Premium* does provide an awesome feature "park audio only" where it removes the PBP commentary simulating an "at the park" feel. Pretty cool.
Lastly, the most important channel in all of Baseball is the Strikezone channel that just came out 2 seasons ago. On Tuesday's and Friday evenings, Directv Extra Inning subscribers receive this channel which is the MLB equivalent to the NFL Red Zone channel. Non-stop action switching from game to game during any hitting/scoring situation. It's an absolute blast especially for Fantasy Managers and bettors like us. Highly recommended!

I have had the MLB package on Directv for as long as I could remember. Channel 720 has the Game Mix just like NFL Sunday Ticket with 8 games on at once. That's all I really watch. The games are clear and the scoreboard with the bases highlighted is perfect.
To me it's worth every penny to a gambler like myself who bets multiple games during the week. I'll usually pay the $20 a year for the MLB.Com audio for every game so I can listen at work.

peelpub94: No offense buddy, but all that sounds a little too nerdy or techie for me. Sounds great though for the guys that will instantly pick up on it and absorb it. I come from the player-coach-manager background that requires intense focus on one thing at a time.

Can't believe I left this out. I literally have a 2nd 42" screen just for this channel alone during Baseball season! :)

I get the Strike Zone channel on Time Warner Cable. I also have something like Game Mix, but it is way inferior. It only shows 4 games at a time and scrolls through them (even the ones with no games). I get the package on TV because I work on a computer all day, so when I want to relax and watch a game it is in front of the TV.

I have MLB Premium tv and its awsome. I live down in NZ and if i was to watch the same game that is on ESPN on MLB.tv they are the same speed. We have very average speed net down here as well so i can only guess that is the states would be pretty good for watching games.
