We saw this twice last home stand . . . great pitchers having issues in certain situations . . . Felix vs Rangers, and Verlander at Safeco Field, both had history that said they weren't worth the prices required to back them in those situations. We get another this weekend, as Felix has been historically poor vs the Angels. We all know that players change, and change again. But what if the angle is strategy when it comes to Pitcher vs Teams matchups? Verlander just doesnt pitch that well in this building. And Felix has not been great against two divisional foes. IMO, there is a reason the Mariners don't allow Felix to pitch vs these teams in spring training. And that reason is those teams already know him well and the Mariners dont want to give them more opportunities in meaningless game to get more for the advance scouting reports. Just a thought.
The holes in the Mariners lineup were exposed once again tonight . . . Smoak was a disaster for Wedge and quite beneficial for those of us backing the Halos ML or RL tonight. In the fourth with bases loaded and no outs, Seattle managed a HBP and 3 strikeouts . . . in the fifth with two runners on and no outs, they failed to get the ball out of the infield with 2 k's and a pop out. . . in the 6th, they score twice with runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs, but they did it without a hit . . . later, they put together 4 straight hits and failed to score. you get the idea.
I think Felix likely wins on Saturday, but i dont think he wins this game often enough to justify paying -160 . . . that being said, this Angels team seems to be almost in as much disarray as the Mariners . . . nonetheless, i will wait, i think Blanton's horrible numbers will drive this price up in my favor.

Looking at Hamilton's body of work since June 1, 2012 overall, and his career numbers vs Felix Hernandez in nearly 60 lifetime plate appearances, i like my chances with Morales handling Joe Blanton.
Morales over Hamilton for H+R+RBI at -120

at first glance, I started rethinking my fade Felix thoughts, I got scared of the right handed heavy Angels lineup . . . but upon further review, the Halos have handled RHP this season . . . but Joe Blanton is scary . . . even though I discount Wedge's comments regarding the Mariners taking another step forward on Friday . . . hey wedge, this is the win league, it's results based . . . it's not the try hard league . . . . nonetheless, Blanton might be a good recipe for the Mariners . . . thus I may lean Over 7.0 instead of backing Blanton's squad.

Cancel that idea . . . Morales is not in the lineup
Mariners Lineup CF Chavez 2B Ackley 3B Seager LF Morse 1B Smoak DH Ibanez C Montero RF Pegeuro SS Ryan (so much for the "Andino is the new every day short stop")

Watched the Mariners last night, it was sad to see Smoak's at-bats you mention. No idea how he makes it to the All-Star break as a starter but who else the M's got? I think they died last night, so many chances to win back-to-back and at least attempt to right the ship. Not sure how they get off the mat until they leave town for a road trip.

The All Star Game is a sham... not every team actually has a player worthy of going... remember Inge a couple years ago batting like .200 for the Tigers... fan votes... sheesh.

Morse can play 1st base, and Zunino & Franklin will be up in the bigs soon enough.

I will layoff fading Felix and the Mariners today . . . The news about Jeff Datz is keeping me away. Hopefully, the third base coach will be able to recover fully.

Verducci had a big article on Smoak on SI.com yesterday, i have not read it yet, but apparently he paints a very bleak pitcure.
Haven't read it, but I'm not a fan of Smoak. Guys has the build to be a legit power hitter...and is awesome in the field. But, he has waaaaaay to many holes in his swing. Can't count the times I've seen him swing and miss at 92-95mph meatballs center cut. At some point, you gotta quit thinking...and just swing the bat. Unfortunately, I dont ever see that happening with this guy.

Smoak is one of the worst prospects I've ever seen. The Rangers knew what they were doing when they traded this guys. (I watch a lot of Mariners games).

This is way for me to fade Felix vs the Angels and take Blanton & Datz into account. Odd play for sure, but i feel best with this after losing my Morales prop.

Over 7.0 at +112 for me tonight

It's going to get to the point where management will have no choice but to bring up Franklin & Zunino...both are raking in AAA...and are major upgrades from Smoak & Ryan (As much as I love his defense and leadership...the guy simply cant hit)

This has got to be Smoaks most critical game in his career, He has to avoid getting the home town totally against him, and this may be his last chance.

Agreed, especially if felix loses another low scoring affair

For the fans like me who would rather sit at home and watch it...that point has been reached already. I was all for giving him some time after his fathers death (He actually hit really well for about a week after) but he has bad habits...and simply looks like he's thinking rather than reacting and just playing.

the lack of baseball intelligence by the Mariners youth is mind boggling. Justin Smoak is still looking for fastballs with two strikes and Ackley picks the worst possible time to lay down a bad bunt
