CHI Cubs ML +111

OVER 7.5 COL rockies - MIL brewers

DET Tigers  -1.5  - 115

Samardzija and Cubs looks to carry over success from Spring, as well as Samar winning and dominating Pitt last year as well.

Both starters have not faired well at all in Spring or matchups with these lineups. Both hav bad bullpens as well and COL has offense to cover whole line itself and has been hitting lately while Mil at Miller park will contribute for the OVER.

Verlander dominates this lineup, no doubt about it. Big day for him off contract, DET has superior lineup as well.

So, today, on an opening day I will allow any kinds of single bets only to reach a mutual conclusion with the contestants if that approach is financially viable. After all that is what this thread was created for - to examine the handicapping values through real time experience and bettering our handicapping habits and being a less of a gambler and more of a handicapper. Since the Money Management is a vital part of successful endeavor  - your question is very important and each and every contestant must give it a thought. We all know from the example of Phixer how important is Money Management

Reading all 437+ pages of your NBA thread I learned that you put some subjects for a public discussion but the final decision is taken by you and you're not afraid of the responsibility within controversial decisions. I think we all know what paying -265 juice means. It means that you have to win 3 normally juiced games in order to regain back a single loss occured on a game pick carrying -265 odds. So, I think sooner you will set the boundaries Mavin - better for everyone.

12-6 vs CHW last year, 3-3 vs sale. Shields lost only game vs white sox with the rays, but it was during a 13 of 14 stretch for the sox and gave up 5 runs in the 5th. KC generally starts off hot.

SEA Mariners Even

King Felix is still king felix, under in this game is probably good too.

Pit Pirates -127

A little concerned about AJ pitching and his inconsistency, but I'll take the better team

I think that going with Yankees TT over the long season should pay off. I'd take over on the full game but the drop of the half a point compared to the line released by Vegas (8.5) makes that play a no play for me. TT is a safer bet for me for few reasons - home opener , the line of 4 is easy to push in worse case, even if this bet loses I will have the same one repeated tomorrow as Yankees will get hold of their bats at home sooner better than later with all the new guys wanting to prove themselves and get some love from the crowd

NY Yankees TT Over 4  +105

Twins +165  I am so excited about this contest so first off, Thanks to SportsMavin for running it.  Here's a few advanced metrics for you. Hope is a wonderful thing and it's so cold I just think these types of conditions bring down elite pitchers more than average ones.... In short, I don't believe Verlander will get close to triple digits today and it's hard to get a breaking pitch feel in that weather. A patient top of line up for Twins will hopefully run the pitch count up early and Mr. Leyland doesn't want to ruin the big investment on opening day especially in conditions like this. As for Worley He's already a 2 pitch pitcher anyway so I just don't think he's as adversely effected. Also I was on Houston last night and in general I like hope early for large dogs.  It sounds silly even as I type it but I'm going with it.

If u like the twins u like the over also
Twins over  7

BOL everyone. I have never participated in a thread before but I hope to contribute more meaningful insight in the future. Let's make some money!

The Yankees aren't expected to win the game because of all the injuries and the changes the team underwent in a preseason. And I love the Yankees each time they aren't expected to win. I count on Yukilis to show his ex team mates he's still got it

Red Sox +100

Lester had a stellar Spring Training and is in top form.
Bullpen is solid and deep.  Yankees missing 4/5 of last years infield.

Mets -140

I like the Lefty Niese in this spot.

Angels +101

Cueto will a terrible spring Training.  He don't like the cold.

San Diego Padres +131
Padres played well there last season and was the 1st team to taste victory at Mets stadium. Volquez is a hit or miss but I think he'll bring the goods and keep the Mets under 3 runs. I predict a 5-2 game for the Padres.

Cincinnati Red -107
My friend is a huge Big Red Machine fan so he's super confident they can beat Jared Weaver today, so I'll back him on his play. Close game, Reds 4, Angels 3.

Kansas City Royals +110
Seems like they are destined (finally) to have a breakout year with some young talent. Jame Shields is a solid veteran and should dominate this CSox line up today. I see a 8-4 game in favor of the Royals.

My homer pick of the year, ha. Good price on shields in a coin flip game.

Pitchers signing big contracts kind of worry me but i'll roll w/ RL ver till it pisses me off at some point this season.

Under 7.5 NY Mets - SD Padres

Two mediocre offenses and two very decent pitchers,Niese has a solid record during the day, I' m looking for him to have a good performance.Volquez will be decent but will get into trouble with walks as usual.5-2 mets win.

Over 8 NY Yankees - BOS Redsox

Both starting pitchers have terrible records to start the season in the last 3 years, I look for this trend to continue, Even though the yankees are in tough with injuries they always find a way to score runs.

I will add one more in a bit Mavin, wanted to get this in before game time...

A's are at home and brett anderson is healthy.. when anderson is healthy he throws gems.. a's are the better team as well.

dodgers also at home, but kershaw owns the giants! trust me im a giants fan.. kershaw owns us!!

reds ML trusting cueto who i have mad respect for.. think reds are every bit as good this year with a deep bullpen and addition of choo.. if cueto pitches well hands it over to bullpen, reds should win.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!

p.s: wow mavin that's a lot of names to keep track of!! lol you sir are the man!!

I can alrady see how disastropus for overall thread record a possible loss for the Nats can be. I can already pass my point on the matter that any pick with odds less than -130 sgouldn't be entered into a contest as it will sure screw up everyone elses efforts.

Mavin. I think you have vto make a right call on the subject before it's too late.

i learned over the years with mlb that most of 6 run totals end up in an under or a push. they seem too low and most regular foks are scared to take it and hate to take it as it is no fun cheering for outs only
