you can see the ball change trajectory as it hits the pole on its way down.

#3 Posted: 10/12/2012 6:48:42 PM A pole located on each foul line on the outfield fence or wall. The left-field foul pole and right-field foul pole are used by umpires to determine whether a batted ball is ahome run or a foul ball. The foul pole is a vertical extension of the foul line. The term "foul pole" is actually a misnomer, because the "foul pole" (like the foul line) is in fair territory and a fly ball that hits the foul pole is considered to be a fair ball (and a home run). |

#4 Posted: 10/12/2012 6:48:51 PM If you look at the angle they just showed on the blimp...there is absolutely not way of telling for sure. |

#6 Posted: 10/12/2012 6:51:05 PM you need conclusive evidence, dont you? can't overturn that. I THINK it hit the pole too.

#7 Posted: 10/12/2012 6:51:54 PM I'm sorry. I still got a TV that you have to use the dial to change the station. You're definitely correct.

#8 Posted: 10/12/2012 6:55:01 PM Yeah I thought it nicked the foul pole as well.
Still, it’s the Yankees playing game 5 at home. There was no way Baltimore was going to get that call.
If the Yankees end up winning I hope its by more than a run because it’d be a shame if that call ended up deciding the series. |

#10 Posted: 10/12/2012 6:59:33 PM From that one look...yes...it seemed as if the ball knicked the foul pole. At real time speed. There really isn't telling other than the umpire standing on the line looking to see if it was on the left or right side of the foul pole without the ball jumping either way off the pole. But from the other look...you couldn't tell at all if the ball hit the pole.
There was no definitive angle. And that, from the replay they were given, was the right call. And I guess I lose all credibility as a Yankee fan. But if the rules are the same as football...and there is no definitive angle...you have to stick with the first call. |

#11 Posted: 10/12/2012 7:01:00 PM And as they just showed with Craig Sager. The usher said it "knicked" the foul pole. Yet the ball has no yellow on it. Still ZERO conclusive evidence. |

And the fans said it didn't while the ball showed no paint on it. How credible is the usher? How credible are the fans? A ball hit that hard...shouldn't it have a little paint on it? Did the fan rub off the paint? Can you rub paint off a ball like that? |

#19 Posted: 10/12/2012 7:10:50 PM The ball hardly hit the pole...so little that it hardly changed the trajectory of the ball....contact like that wouldn't probably show paint. Its not like the poles are painted fresh before each game. |

I might as well agree with you at this point. If the Yankees win here...it's Jeffrey Maier all over again. |

#25 Posted: 10/12/2012 7:18:01 PM Sparky, I think the fact that even one Yankee fan in the crowd behind the foul pole said it hit the pole is pretty telling. But that’s just me.
That ball could have hit the foul pole almost dead on and I think most of those fans would have probably still said it was foul. |
