locks of the week, month, year, decade, and century usually aren't locks at all.

I'll back Washington in Game Five of its NLDS series against St. Louis in a rematch of the Game One starters, Gio Gonzalez and Adam Wainwright.

Gonzalez struggled with his control in the series opener, walking seven in five innings. But he allowed just two runs and the Nationals rallied late for a 3-2 win. And that's the key - Washington won - because the team is 25-8 in his outings this season, including 10-4 at home.

Gonzalez, who hasn't allowed an earned run in his last 23 innings pitched, is personally 9-4 with a 2.38 ERA in 14 trips to the hill at home this season.

Wainwright had great stuff in the opener, fanning 10 batters while pitching 5.2 innings of one-run ball. But that game was at Busch Stadium and outside of St. Louis this season he's struggled, compiling a 4.20 ERA in 15 starts.

They're my biggest bet of the year in baseball that I made last night, but I'm kind of surprised the line didn't steam up today.
But that can be a good thing not being on a heavy public fave!

I just wished I didn't have to post a response to your writeup in a "Lock of the Millennium" thread!

GL to all Nat's backers!!
