Here is a fact:
THE TIGERS WILL NEVER WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP AS LONG AS LEYLAND IS MGR.
I called it as soon as Fielder made the error. He will pull Scherzer out of panic (as always). You could tell he didn't know what to do or who to bring in. I said at the end of the 6th "he is too stupid to bring in Albuqurgue (who is basically unhittable)". To my surprise....he brought in Albuqurque for his customery 1-2-3 inning. Now here comes the routine.
Leyland's boys... Benoit and Valverde. If Benoit doesn't blow it in the 8th than certainly Valverde will in the 9th. GUARANTEED!!!. Benoit almost did... but we all know what happened.
Tigers pen has so much talent too. The problem is that Leyland is a moron and doesn't know where the talent is. All year Villareal has been great! As I said earlier, Albuqurque is un-hittable, Smyly is a nice lefty. These guys pitch, this series is over.
But now, the "Leyland Factor" comes into play. He goes with the three worst guys in the pen. Coke, Benoit, and Valverde (throw Dotel in too, but he has some good days).
Benoit and Valverde should never see the bump again as Tigers. Go with the young guys and you shall win.
Leyland is convinced that these are the guys and he is too STUPID to listen to anything else. It is time for him to go.
Good riddance too! He f'd us good. I actually was hoping to not make the playoffs so they could fire him and hire Francona. Then we start winning multiple rings. We have the best team, I am convinced of that. However, Leyland takes a great team and makes them just average.
Here is something about Valverde too. Yes he may have quite a few saves. But in damn near every one ofn them the tying run was standing on 3rd when the final out was recorded. That is something numbers don't show. Make no doubt, Valverde sucks! Our pen is very good... it is jusyt our manager doesn't pitch the right guys. He is out of touch with who "our Guys" are and the fact that "his guys" suck. It is so frustrating when you "the fan" know it is coming and the manager doesn't. When your 8th and 9th inning guys come in the rest of the league feel an ease. In Detroit, we must hold our breath and pray (and also hope we have at least a 5 run lead).
Last thing... Why is Albuqurque not the closer? Once again, he is pretty much inhittable. Valverde = Batting Practice
With all of this said, I still think Detroit wins this series tomorrow with Verlander on the bump. My only worry is that he doesn't pitch a complete game. That would mean that Leyland gets to make a call to the pen and will be the wrong one AGAIN.
THE LEYAND FACTOR!
Mr Ilitch, please do the right thing and end it!
