Gonna do some research but isn't Oakland in a perfect situation for a let down. I'm willing to guess that teams that go on these magical runs to end the season, then win the wild card game, to make the playoffs, usually flop in the first game of the playoffs. Letting their guard down as though "we made it". But it's just begun.
On the otherside it's easy to think, they have all the momentum and they can't be stopped.
First glance and feeling I like Detroit. I'll do some digging and see what I come up with.

I like your 1st glance sir not many on here feel the sameway we do and I guess I am missing something with the A's I guess my stores dont sell the same juice here as everywhere else. Tigers in big games this year are great at home even better and Verlander has been money I might lose my ass tonight on this game or I might win but one thing I know I am on the right side with Tigers here.
Good luck to you

I don't know man, usually I'd be very enticed to take the Tigers and Verlander when the attention is not on their team and the A's off of all these crazy wins, but the A's are motivated and looking at this game as a huge challenge to beat the toughest Ace in the game. A's also had a day to settle down after that huge defeat and have the Neshek angle going for them to bond together. It would be a huge statement for them to win this game. I think if the A's are able to win today, Detroit ML and RL in Game 2 might one of the better plays this postseason....that's when I think they'd have a big emotional let down.
Last year Tampa was on a tear. Then they brought in the relatively unknown persona in Matt Moore and won an in improbable fashion in Texas. Game 2-4 they got crushed. While I don't think the A's will get crushed like that since they are a very good team, I would much rather fade them in Game 2 off a win than Game 1 here.

Also the A's have faced Verlander twice this year, they lost 3-1 and 5-0 I believe. The 3-1 game was when they were playing mediocre ball and the 5-0 was the recent game.
In that 5-0 game where Verlander did not give up a run, the A's got a man on base every inning and made him work like a dog. Off of the very long rest Verlander knows he's in for a tough game and sometimes with too much rest he knows it's going to be a struggle tonight.
Parker is pitching great and just faced the Rangers twice (one of them being before their complete meltdown), the Yankees (going toe-to-toe in Yankee Stadium against CC and losing 2-1), beating the O's, and doing great in 2 starts against the Angels. The Tigers also haven't seen Parker before and have not been playing high quality ball clubs like the A's in this win streak.
Baseball's not my best sport so I don't want to take you away from your lean I'm just spitting out some thoughts.
Always enjoy your threads my man!
