last night, gio shut down the mets, got W #19. This looms large in tonight's game.

If RA Dickey expects Cy Young consideration, this game is must-win. A standout pitching performance vs one of the major leagues best offenses would be a signature moment, something that will be fresh on the minds of the people who decide these things.

the mets suck. but they do win this guys games. despite how bad they play, dickey has 18 wins. most teams have an ace whom they step up for. this is the guy the mets step up for.

the fact the mets are favored, given how awful they been playing at home, gives me confidence this is the winning side. im sure nats backers see a bargain in this line. last nights outcome sets up a nice trap situation.

Mets

Goes both ways.  Gives Washington much incentive to smash him tonight.  Leaning him anyway.  BOL

joshfactor, I was with you last night on the Mets.  I think we had the right idea, but with one clumsy drop, Kelly Shoppach buried us, Collin McHugh, and the whole team.  Tonight, though, I advise against making the same mistake twice.

bator. if you have the brass balls to back mchugh vs gio, dont chicken out tonight just because of shoppach. Dickey should be in beast mode. last night was a weak play, this game we have much better defense on the hill. knuckleballers are either gas cans, or lights out. I'm expecting greatness & sportcenter billing for Dickey tonight.

another factoid about last night. Mets pen shut down the nats over half the game last night. thats imprssive because earlier this seaon they were awful. so i think this gives dickey a good chance to get his W should he be winning.

I don't know if that means much.  The Nats were giving at-bats away as they knew they had the game locked down.
