There was no way that Cano would had won it. First the yanks played a late game and NYY had to fly to KC with only a 5-6 hour sleep. Second, it's not easy to win back2back years so there are added pressure to that.
But to hit 0 HRs was definitely something that I didn't expect. Cano's batting stance was different last night. I think he was very distracted by the boos and he tried too hard to send the balls out there.

#11 Posted: 7/10/2012 9:45:39 AM You guys have to understand that they wanted and should have had one of their own in the HR Derby in my opinion. They had someone deserving and like someone above said its all about the fans. I think Cano deserved to be booed. They dont have much to root for out there but they are getting better. Cano new he wasnt a 100% why not step down and let Butler in?
THis is problem with the new format of team captains. |

#14 Posted: 7/10/2012 11:13:08 AM The only reason they were booing Cano is because he said he would pick a Royals player to be on the derby team, and obviously in the end didnt pick Butler |

#17 Posted: 7/10/2012 11:44:12 AM Cano should have picked Butler for the HR comp. It would have been the noble thing to do. He deserved every boo he got. Yankees are arrogant pricks and im glad every park outside of NY boos them. darn the Yankees, darn Cano.

#19 Posted: 7/10/2012 12:04:03 PM The reason the kc fans were booing was because cano lied on the local sports radio station here in kc he first said about a month ago he was going to wait and see who is In the all star game and he would base his decision off that. Then yesterday on the local sports radio station 810 sports radio here in kc he was confronted and said why didn't you pick butler and he said he made the roster for the home run derby a couple months before the derby which is a lie from what he said before. It's out of respect you take one of the home towns players I don't blame our fans for Doing it the all star game is for the fans. If this happened in any other stadium the same thing would have Happened. Everyone keeps saying its about the fans and how un classy the kc fans are well think about this the home run derby is for the fans and entertainment. Which in that case cano should have picked butler the royals player out of respect but cano didn't because he wanted the american league to win the home run derby so don't say wow kc fans how unclassy because it's about charity because it obviously wasn't to cano all he cared about was winning. Obviously he was affected by the boos as soon as he got done batting he tweeted about it lol come on your a major league baseball player. It's not unclassy what kc fans did its sports cano is a major league baseball player making millions if you can't handle getting booed then you shouldnt Even be playing professional sports. |

#22 Posted: 7/10/2012 12:35:50 PM In the interview with Kemp and Cano when they were picked as captains, Cano basically stated that he would almost certainly pick a KC player. Its no big deal that the fans were booing. In fact, because Cano hit 0 HR's, the KC fans win that battle.
KC should have been booing because how often are they relevant in baseball?
My pick would have been Hosmer over BUtler though becuase well he is way tighter.

Around this time last season, Diamondbacks fans booed Prince Fielder at the All-Star Game's Home Run Derby for not picking Justin Upton on his four-man team.

#25 Posted: 7/10/2012 1:01:19 PM Like it or not, booing is part of the game. It's the fans right, as long as it's just booing. Sounds to me like the KC fans were expecting Cano to pick Butler and he didn't. As a New York Yankee, you're either loved or hated in this business. I didn't personally care for it as I heard it, but I figured there was more to the story, and apparently so. At least they didn't throw snowballs at Santa Claus! |
