Sparky you also have been saying for the past 2 years Arrieta is the best starter in your opinion. I have continually told you that he has the best pure stuff but he lacks the control to be successful consistently. He will always have a dud game every now and then. He is somewhat like AJ Burnett except not a mental midget.

And Hunter is soon to be removed from the rotation when Britton returns. Should happen in about a month if his rehab continues to go well with no set backs. That will only make the rotation better and put Hunter in the pen as their long guy and spot starter.

And whats that say about your Jays since they are 1-5 against the "lowly, pathetic" Orioles.

And dont even try saying I talk bad about the Jays. I have said they have been run and made some of the best moves of any franchise over the past couple years (trades and drafting).

Get a clue about Matusz before mispeaking again.

The botched double play happened with 1 out so there was still 1 out when it happened. Thus why only 1 run was earned.

And just so you know Matusz has had defensive mishaps every single start. And 5 of his earned runs this year are because Gregg allowed 3 to score and O'day allowed 2. Once again keep looking at his stat sheet instead of having any actual knowledge of how he's pitched and the circumstance during his starts.

So he finished a FULL season as one of the top pitchers in baseball for a month and a half and still had just a 4.30 ERA? And there you go with that small sample size. Hammel is one of the best pitchers in baseball right now too. A month and a half worth of stats means nothing.

And my mistake. I started getting active in this thread when they beat the Red Sox. Not that impressive of a feat either.

Well they have 6-7 hitters barely hitting over 200

and have blown 7 saves already

I think being 3 games over 500 right now is quite lucky

yes, the O's have had their number so far won't last

I lose some cred here but I touted Tillman, not Arrieta.

And Britton was great...and then he started getting hammered. Then he got hurt...just like every other Oriole does after they start to slump. Never know whose good and whose not.

Matusz had 11 starts during that stretch. Not 5 starts like Hammel has now. During those 11 starts he dropped his ERA from 5.46 to 4.30.  In 16 of his 32 starts in 2010 Matusz allowed 2 runs or less and 7 of those starts he allowed 3 runs. So in 23 of his 32 starts he allowed 3 runs or less.

You are right Matusz sucks. You are talking about small sample sizes but you use 9 bad starts to speak of his 4.30 ERA that year yet you say 11 starts at the end of the year prove nothing about him being well.

Seems a little like hypocrisy to me.

The O's have to pay $10 mm to a player who wont even play. I know this was said in jest.

Jays: 2012: $ 83,739,200
Orioles:
2012: $ 84,102,333

You do realize that you can bring up any stat from any player and any scenario from someone within your organization and, at the end of the day, it will be the same as it's been since you started arguing with me. You won't be in the playoffs at season's end and you'll be lucky to be competitive by the all-star break.

getting britton in there should provide a boost if he is back to his old stuff ... how has looked so far on his rehab starts?  i just saw something on an injury report that he was doing spring training starts and his velocity is up

there are also rumblings that pineiro may make his way up.  not much upside with him coming up but better to start a guy who will get you innings with his experience that waste the young guys time.

I just looked over their schedule and they ahve 50 games until the AS break.

A very conservative record during that span I would say is 22-28 just for a come back down to last place sort of pace you expect them to play at.

That would give them a record of 44-40 at the AS break. That is 4 games over .500 and if that is the case then there is no way they are in last place and probably would be about 3rd place with that record.

But then who is in 4th and 5th place in that scenario. And you said earlier the half way point is where you evaluate teams. So is a team on pace for 84-85 wins a garbage team? Even though, as I said during spring training, that no team in teh AL East will win more than 94 games.
