Wonder how much cash? Enough to trade for a reliever like Adams? |

Nobody can convince me that the problem for the Phillies last season was "lack of offense". You could have had the All-Star team as your lineup...but you ran into a buzzsaw. Halladay, Hamels and Lee allows you to keep pace with buzzsaw pitching. |

I would probably go with.....out.
I'd go with out too, no doubt |

Giants did seem like a team of destiny last year, sorry for the cliche
But his point was and its true, the pitching wasn't the problem last year.....although Halladay got roughed up a little in Game 1 (he was hurt and was getting squeezed....in fairness Lincecum was getting squeezed too)
Pence will help, no doubt.....should help with the spot itself/himself, and should help Howard too |

If you told me 7-10 years ago, that the Phillies would be the NL Yankees, I would've never believed it
(I know they only won 1 Championship, so no need for you all to jump all over me......I mean as far as spending and going after the big names) |

I think the pitching was pretty comparable last season in the playoffs with the Giants. The Phillies just couldn't get any timely hitting, and even with Hunter Pence, it doesn't guarantee they will, but it certainly doesn't hurt.
I guess you would make the Giants the favorite over the Phillies again this season. Their starting pitching is still intact, after all.

I think you have to take one of them getting in. They're both certainly going to make the playoffs, and then you figure they'll be the favorite in each series.

The Phillies go for it more than the Yankees. The Yankees throw money at players in the offseason and pride their farm system too much. You guys are throwing your farm system a everyone who will listen. I have no problem with it at all. |

#39 Posted: 7/29/2011 10:26:42 PM The difference between the Yanks/Philles right now is that you had a worthy player available who could fit a need. The Yankees need a starter and there just isn't anybody worthy of giving away top prospects for. |

So if the pitching was comparable...you are telling me that the Giants (who some say had the worst offense ever to win a Championship) was better than the Phillies' offense?
The Phillies were the better team last year. They were the best team in baseball. BETTER than the Giants. The Giants were just clicking at the right time. I know for sure that won't happen this year. Lee + Halladay + Hamels (+ Oswalt?) will win you the National League and probably the World Series this year and maybe next year too. |

#43 Posted: 7/29/2011 10:34:26 PM Ed Wade is the worst GM in the league but he did pretty well in this deal if they got who I think they did. |

wow, I wish I was so sure about that
Here's the thing, the Phillies have major issues with Lincecum and Cain, and they will again IMO.........but they will have Doc and Lee pitching against them.....so say you go 1-1 in those games
The Phillies can not be shut down again this year by the likes of Madison Bumgarner, or new additions Vogelsong, etc....
and I'm hoping they won't.....I'm thinking they would shell Vogelsong in a playoff game |

I'm not saying the Giants offense was better than the Phillies last year, I'm just saying they got more timely hits.
And how can you say "I know for sure", so and so, won't happen this year? The Phillies could play the worst team in baseball in a best-of-seven series, and nothing is guaranteed.
