RED SOX ALT RUN LINE -1 (LINE PENDING)
Red Sox need to make a statement this series after getting swept by the White Sox. Josh Beckett is having his best season ever and so far he's had an almost untouchable 2-0 (5 starts) at home with a 0.56 ERA. While Trevor Cahill started the season strong, he's been in a funk and he's struggled at Fenway. Straight ML is juiced to -190, so I am playing Boston ARL -1 for this.
PIRATES -105
Pirates hung in there against Hamels and the Phillies and took the first game of the series in extra innings. Now they get to put their best starter, Charlie Morton (though not in w-l record) against Kyle Kendrick. Pirates play well against Philadelphia at home and the Phillies seem to be in a bad stretch right now.
BRAVES -125
I don't like the line. With Jair Jurrjens on the mound (7-1, 1.51 ERA) and his 7-2 record against the Mets over the past three years, it seems like the Braves should be at least -150 favorites in this game. Well, in addition to his sterling ERA, Jurrjens has also held opponents to 2 runs or less in each of his (very high quality) starts. Now Dillon Gee is starting for the Mets. He is 5-0 and a Pelfrey-esque 3-0 at home with a shiny 2.20 ERA. He also beat Atlanta earlier this year. The numbers say pick 'em but I still think that these Mets are cursed and I'll continue to look to fade them under the glass is half empty view.
BLUE JAYS -120
This is another game with a short line given that the Jays present the better pitcher (Romero) and better offense.
TOTALS
BREWERS / MARLINS OVER 8.0
I'm fading one pitching (Gallardo) and banking on the continuation of another's ineffectiveness (Volstad).
NATIONALS / DIAMONDBACKS OVER 9.5
The Nationals have lost the last six games which Livan Hernandez has started. I think that he's too good of a pitcher to lose another one, but I have a hard time seeing how a pairing of Livan Hernandez and Joe Saunders on a warm night in Phoenix won't yield runs.
TEAM TOTALS
RANGERS TEAM TOTAL OVER (LINE PENDING)
Rangers offense has come to life since the return of Josh Hamilton. I've tried taking Carmona coming off of bad outings, but it's now been three in a row, and I might be making a mistake to jump off now, but it's hard not to see the Rangers continuing their scoring ways.
BEST OF LUCK TO EVERYONE ON SATURDAY
