Hey genius...he asked for sleeper pitchers. Do I need to explain what that means to you because apparently you don't understand when you list Hallady and Sabathia. |

2.83 E.R.A 2nd half last season.
2nd worst run support in MLB last season.
His numbers were actually pretty good last season although his record doesn't reflect it.
No pressure to be an ace pitching behind Lincecum and Cain, he can quietly surprise. |

#41 Posted: 4/2/2010 1:27:03 AM I'll pick my three favorite.
Tim Hudson - He's going to be playing on a very solid Braves club. He's not a guy that solely relies on bringing the heat. He was good last year when returning from injury and has been lights out this preseason (1.35 ERA with 17 K's and 3 walks in 5 games pitched). He should be good for 13-15 wins this season.
Scott Feldman - Has to be the quietest 17 game winner ever. He's not the greatest pitcher ever and not sure he will repeat last years #'s but Texas is going to win alot of games. I think his ERA will rise a bit but with a improved lineup he should get to 15 wins again.
Jorge De La Rosa- another guy who had a quiet 15+ wins. I think Colorado is the best team in there division and he seems to getting better each start out. Some nights he will get lit up but again he plays on a good team that will always give him run support. |

That's why they're called sleepers. Players go undrafted every year who end up having big seasons. Or at least serviceable ones.
Todd Wellemeyer just won the Giants' 5th spot by the way. He's had an incredible spring from what I've heard. |

Doesn't that philosophy go against every belief you have had over the past 3 years.
You get on me non stop and say you dont care what Baseball America, or baseball prospectus or any other scouting service says about the Orioles young players and prospects.
You said you could careless how they perform in the minors or how good they are perceived to be because none of it matters until they do it in the majors AND YOU can see them with your own eyes.

#47 Posted: 4/3/2010 12:48:00 AM Sox, Fausto Carmona ??? That guy has only won 15 games the last 2 years. Plus the Tribe will be horrendous again this year.
What about Gavin Floyd? |

#49 Posted: 4/3/2010 3:44:09 AM Brad Penny.
Alternative picks: Andy Petitte (he's kinda a douchebag). Jake Peavy is a #2, but he ain't no underdog. Kevin Slowey won 10 last year only starting 10 games, and is probably the next best underdog pick.
Even if it isn't Penny, I think you should use the following criteria:
Pick a team that has a shitty division.
Pick a team that has good bats.
Pick a team that has traditionally had #3 or #4 starters excel.
Pick a pitcher that is traditionally healthy who is a #3 or #4 starter (pitching against weak teams' #3s or #4s can't hurt ya, right?).
Pick a pitcher that has won 15 games before.
That being said, I like the Cards. Approximately 80-in-division games against craphat teams like the Asstros and the Pirates. The Cubs have garbage on the bench, and once Soriano/Ramirez/both get injured, will they be an easy target for a while?
Cards have traditionally had #2 and #3 starters excel far beyond expectations, and they have a lineup that could make Jose Lima a 12-game winner (ees Limatime babeeee).
Next - Penny has something to prove, and he knows how to pitch with a lead. Also, he was healthy last year.
Next teams that I'd look to are the White Sox or the Yanks. But I'm lazy, and there's risk in the White Sox (they have pretty solid competition in their division). Not to hate on the Phils/Braves/Marlins, but they have a competitive division and that could darn ya.
Best underdog picks: Penny, Petitte, Slowey, and if you count Peavy as an underdog, add him to the list too. |

#50 Posted: 4/3/2010 3:45:47 AM Typo: Slowey started 16 games, not 10. I blame that typo on Belhaven Twisted IPA. Bev-Mo, you da shizzznitz! |
