You know like I heard one sportscaster say.  George re-invests almost every dime he makes from the YES network, advertisments, and the stadium to put it back into the club to get the players to give his team and the fans the best chance to win the world championship.

Because the owner reinvests most of the money instead of being greedy and putting it into his pockets like a lot of owners do in sports this makes the yankees such a dislikable team.

I dont get it.  I really dont.

Someone please help me understand. :>

What you are missing is that no other team has near the amount of money to "invest" into their baseball team like the Yankees.  Sure there are very wealthy owners, but in the scheme of things have NO CHANCE of competing with the Yankees!

Why are there MONOPOLIES in business?  If one company is bigger and more powerful than all of the smallers ones... why are they not allowed to crush them all and drive every small competitor into the ground?  Why does the government step in?  BECAUSE IT IS NOT FAIR... IT ELIMINATES COMPETITION.

Believe it or not there is a method to the maddness.

You can look it up... payroll correlated to number of wins per season.  The top payrolls always have the top wins.  The Yankees have the #1 payroll EVERY YEAR... and therefore win more than every other team.

But if you ask does a 210 million dollar payroll beating a 110 million dollar payroll impress you... NO... should it... NO... the Yankees should win every year... and if they don't win it is a failure.  Like you said they put the most in... and should in theory get the most out.

So its Ok to just buy all the best players all the time and call yourself a winner?? Sure he wants to win and thats great but MLB is  a complete joke. How many teams can reallistically win the world series every year ?? 6 ?? 8?? Look at all the biggest pieces of this team:

A-ROID - bought

Tex - bought

CC - bought

Burnett - bought

Matsui - bought

Damon - bought

Congrats to Yankee fans I guess.Salary cap please

Over simplified version is this....

Yankees have a built in demographic/geographic advantage NO other franchise does. They have the ability to go out and get any player they covet regardless of price. Example is spending half a billion on 3 players last offseason. No other team would have been able to sign all 3 yet the Yankees ahve the resources because of where they are located.

Their free spending ways have distorted the FA market and made average players contracts bloated and over valued because of the large contracts the Yankees have handed out to stars. There is no balance of competition.

I totally agree he could just sit on his wallet and the still make $$ with the Yanks but he gives the fans what they want the BEST players. What i don't like is these other teams can't compete in bidding wars with the Yanks.

Short answer.... People are ignorant and don't understand how to run a business.  George S. is the GREATEST owner in sports history. PERIOD!

And actually, Woop... The Twins owner could buy the Steinbrenners 12 times over.  HE HAS PLENTY OF MONEY BUT REFUSES TO SPEND IT!

The MLB has no salary cap.  The Yanks are breaking ZERO rules.  Hate the game, not the player!

All you quoting hwo owns certain teams shows you have ZERO knowledge about he economics behind the baseball business.

Angelos of hte Orioles is a billionaire. It has nothing to do with what the owners' worth is.... ITS THE MARKET THEIR BUSINESS/TEAM IS LOCATED.

I really dnot know how many different ways myself and numerous other people can say this so you understand this extremely simple and concrete concept.

Essentially these people never took courses in economics.  They want the teams to put out 250 million dollars in payroll, and then lost 100 million dollars a year because they are not in a market that can support that payroll

Add to that the Yankees are able to absorb bad signings like Pavano, Kevin Brown and guys that dont work out because payroll means shit to them. There is no skill or acumen in being Brian Cashman and just throwing money at guys and hoping enough of them play well enough for you to win. It is a joke and it is a main reason why MLB sucks
