Unlike the NFL, NBA and NHL, Major League Baseball has no salary cap. I'm sorry that your management (whatever team you root for) does not feel that it is important enough to spend money on the organization to be as successful as possible in this sport. I'm sorry that teams like the Marlins, Pirates, Rays, etc. take the surplus money from the luxury and line THEIR pockets and do not invest in the team. I'm sorry. ![]()

So you say give the Yankees the Championship then you say the Phillies beat them? Interesting.
And isn't Baseball and Football more popular than Hockey and Basketball?
And the Giants and Jets are both better than the Lions. Hell...so are the Bills.

Sparky10191,
I know you've been a Yankee fan for a long time (30 years?). Well, I'm 47 and remember Horace Clarke to Gene Michaels to Ron Blomberg as the double play combination. I remember 8,000 to 10,000 fans at the game at Yankee Stadium. I remember losing 100 games a year. I remember going to Shea Stadium to watch the Yanks play (how's that for embarrasing). What these "fans" fail to realize is the once proud Yankee organization was as bad as the current day Pirates. When George Steinbrenner purchased the Yankees he not only changed the mind set of losing but the way we would go about purchasing the best players. Has it always worked, hell no. But I would rather have an owner who spends money than the idiots or idiot savants who "steal" money from their fans and say "we can't play against the Yankees of the world". Boo F*cking Hoo!! Grow up boys, sports is a business.

Another math major who probably lives in a small rural town.
The NY Yankees spent 200 million on player salaries in order to make 1 billion in profit. You do the math Einstein!! ![]()

Exactly. He dishes out any penny he can to help put a winning team on that field. Yes...they overprice tickets more than any other team in baseball. But they make the experience at a baseball game a whole lot more worth while. I rather pay $100 for a ticket to see the Yankees than a $10 special at Kauffman Stadium to see the Royals when Greinke isn't pitching.

Yes...but if winning brings in more revenue from "bandwagon fans", then go for it.
And I was thinking about it...baseball and basketball are kinda even. However...basketball jerseys are about $20 cheaper than baseball jerseys and they have more to choose from. New York has tons of Yankees' jerseys because there are so many stars. But when I go to Georgia, I see Smith, Johnson, Horford etc., but I only see Chipper Jones jerseys. So sales are higher because there are more NBA jerseys out there.
And Yankee fans have every right to rub other fan's noses in it. Were you around yesterday when Yankee Haters were talking non stop bragging about how the Angels are going to go back to New York up 3-2? Yankee Fans on here wont take that lying down and they'll go back at them. However...since the Yankees opened the flood gates, there was not 1 Yankee Hater to be found. coincidence? I don't think so.
