Yes, cheeseheads. Mary is still a Green Bay Packers fan even though Aaron Rodgers is the man running the show now.
Mary developed a permanent widow's peak at the spot she applied the "hair mousse".
My pick: Chicago White Sox +110
Here are the W's & L's for Gavin Floyd for April 2009:
Wed, April 8 vs Royals L 0-2 Time: 8:11 PM EST
Mon, April 13 vs Tigers W 10-6 Time: 1:04 PM EST
Sun, April 19 vs Rays W 12-2 Time: 1:38 PM EST
Fri, April 24 vs Blue Jays L 0-14 Time: 8:11 PM EST
Let me be less subtle.
Gavin Floyd's day/night splits:
In 17 games started in the day Gavin is 15-3 w/a 3.52 ERA
In 49 games started in the night Gavin is 12-17 w/a 5.58 ERA
Thats a stunning 83% winning clip for Gavin in day games and a paltry 41% in night games.
In the 2 years that i've been avidly watching Gavin Floyd at The Cell or on the tube, its become a fact that he pitches well in the day and, also generally, in warmer weather.
I've been at US Cellular in damp and dreary conditions and i've witnessed Gavin Floyd throw junkballs in inclement weather more often than not. His curveballs aren't breaking right and he can't locate his fast-balls. And i recall a lot of day games when hes looked like an ace.
Its an overcast day in Chicago right now. The residual clouds from the southerly storms are still passing through. But we're schedule to have some sunshine in the afternoon. We should be in the high 50-degrees by 1st pitch. Mild lake breezes; that means the flags will be flying inwards at US Celluar Field.
It looks to be a nice and balmy day for Floyd. Nice enough for him to toss a good game against a pitcher who seems to be in his 2007 form, Erik Bedard.
Here are the BA's against each pitcher.
Not a huge sample but it looks like the M's have hit Floyd very well; 14 hits in 39 at-bats.
4-8 .500 Ichiro Suzuki
0-8 .000 Adrian Beltre
3-7 .429 Jose Lopez
3-7 .429 Yuniesky Betancourt
2-5 .400 Wladimir Balentien
2-4 .500 Endy Chavez
And 21 hits in 80 at-bats against Bedard:
5-20 .250 Jermaine Dye
5-19 .263 Paul Konerko
4-16 .250 Jim Thome
4-8 .500 A.J. Pierzynski
1-6 .167 Brian Anderson
1-5 .200 Josh Fields
1-3 .333 Carlos Quentin
Today's home-plate umpire:
Tim Tschida w/a moderate 61.8% stike zone.
He's 2-4 Over-Under in 2009.
He was 21-13 Over-Under in 2008.
In doing White Sox home games for the past 5 years, all of those games have gone over the total. But lets take a look at the pitchers involved: a shaky Jose Contreras in 2008, a debilitating Jon Garland in 2007, a fledgling Brandon McCarthy in 2005, and another shaky Contreras in 2004. Nothing really pertinent.
With the wind a factor today i'm not suprised to see the total at 8½.
No play on the total, but i'll take the hometown value on Gavin Floyd.
Shake on it for 3 bills.
