So you saw how Masterson pitched in the 7th....you have Papelbon ready, and you're willing to bring him in to get 6 outs because you have an off day tomorrow, You're gonna leave Masterson in there to give up a leadoff triple, AND THEN put Papelbon in....
Now in your honest opinion, does that make any sense to you?
If you're gonna let your closer get 6 outs, let him start the inning...

So that's what it boils down to? When a pitcher makes a mistake and doesn't make a pitch it's the Managers fault. But when a manager's gamble pays off with a player that hasn't played much lately hitting a 2 run game winning homer you say the player bailed out his manager.
JMO, but that seems like a double standard to me. I mean the manager doesn't go out there and make plays, the players do. When the player doesn't do his job it's his fault, not the manager's.
Francona is great. Bottom line.

I never claimed to be able to manage this team better than Francona, and I already stated he's a great clubhouse guy and he's great for team chemistry, He just seems to have a tendency to mismanage his pitching staff...this goes back to his days in Philadelphia....

Slim Jim, I like you man but I fucking love Tito. Your not going to win this. Did you want Paps to come in for the 6 outs? Masterson is going to be the face of this bullpen. He has already taken over Oki's spot as the set up man. It was the right decision to leave him in the game, plain and simple.

Francona needed to put Masterson in that position so he could feel the pressure. There will be similar situations as this and Terry needs to know Masterson can handle the pressure and can be counted on. I think all the moves Francona made or didn't make were valid.

I agree with you slimjim 100%. The sox have won despite him over the last 4 years. But there aren't many good managers out there - there are only like 5 managers that I would I take over him - the rest of them are worse than him!!!!! MLB is full of idiot mangagers.
