Giants: Cain went seven innings, giving up just three hits and two runs (two solo homers) before he came out in the eighth inning due to a tight right hamstring in his last start on Saturday in a no-decision against the Phillies. He struck out a season-high eight and walked a season-low one. It was the second quality start in the last three outings for Cain.
Pirates: Maholm has struggled to be consistent on the road, which was evident in his Saturday start. After giving up five runs in the first two innings he settled down and threw three scoreless innings, receiving no decision in a 9-8 Pirates loss. After the game, he said he wasn't concerned about his mechanics or delivery, dismissing the bad innings as something that will happen over the course of a 162-game season
