The factor you're expecting (along with everyone else yesterday) is an increase in effort from DET. This is a mistake. DET is basically locked into the conference lead. Since OTT took a few games on the chin they're probably locked into the Presidents trophy too. These games where the team appears to coast is where they put the young guys in to work the system and prepare to join the team later should injuries occur (they always do).
Don't for a second think that DET _can't_ lose 3 in a row. They already have once this season.
How will ANA win @ DET, you say?
First you have to look at the reasons for their two losses. First, they didn't deserve to win @ MIN. Should have been called for many penalties in the last half of the game. Instead NONE!?! Yeah, that's crap. They carry that lazy attitude (reinforced by the refs lack of calls) over into their next couple of games. Total no-show against LAK. Toronto got all the calls (or lack thereof) and got healthy just in time to face the Wings.
Now we look at ANA. They get Selanne back on the ice and probably Pahlsson today. Gives them much more offensive punch. What they've really done is improve their attitude which goes a long way toward increasing effort and thus results. ANA housed DET in the WCCS last season. They know this team, how they play and how to beat them.
