Well now, I do believe I've allowed myself to get too caught up in stats 'n' diplomacy lately.  So today I'm going to do my best to keep it simple, and allow my chi to flow  *OMmmm**:

PHI v PIT - This intrastate rivalry begins anew once again today.  Both these teams played yesterday.  Both should be able to bring an equal amount of energy to this game.  Sabu tended goal for the Pens yesterday, so Conklin will get the nod today, while Nittymaki is expected to fend the visitor's goal.

I suspect the Pens up-tempo will force Philly into it's usual chorus of penalties.  This one should be easy for the home side.  PIT (ML) - (PL) if you're feeling rowdy.

NYR v WSH - Hey the Rangers won a game yesterday, that's nice.  Lundqvist is likely going to tend goal for this "original six" club from New York.  However, Henrik has not played well of late.  Perhaps he turns the tide tonight, but after Ovechkin was held off the score-keeper's card (by CAR) in the CAPS most recent, you can just about count on that sort of thing not happening two games on the row . . . especially on a weekend day game.

The Capitals need every win they can muster, and I see little reason why they too, won't be able to skate circles around an older New York team, that would likely just as soon go home and rest than play a game against this WSH team.  CAPS (ML)  (PL) is also looking tempting to me here.

ANA v DET - Rather than me telling you the "how" and the "why" behind my reasons for picking the Red Wings in this nationally broadcast game; . . . how 'bout somebody tells me (along w/ our fellow thread readers) how in the "H. E. double pop-sickle sticks" the Ducks win this game.

I'm not saying such an outcome is impossible, mind you.  I mean, Joe Louis could get hit by a meteorite, or maybe the Wings sticks all break each an' every time they try to shoot the puck . . . anyway you get my drift.  DET (ML)  << which should have plenty of value on it's own after DET's past two games.

MIN v STL - The Blue *NOTS*  SUUUCK.   MIN (ML)

LAK v CBJ - I've sometimes wondered what make the Blue Jackets so likable to me.  Now I understand.  For some time now, the Blue Jackets have own the Kinks.
So L.A.'s arrival to Nationwide will be just what the doctor ordered for Columbus today . . . tonight.  Pascal Leclaire is "questionable" for today's game.

I wish it were more certain than that.  However, Labarbera has been pulling double duty for the Kings as well so, if Norrena *does* suit up, I look at it as an even match (now don't go throwing stats at me, it's my opinion - nothing more, nothing less).  The Blue Jacks are starting to creep towards "record territory" in terms of home losses, I do not believe they will allow this to happen.  Not tonight, and NOT against the fucking "kings".  CBJ (ML)

FLA v BUF - Despite what Covers has listed, I've read that Tim Connolly is expected to be back soon, if indeed he doesn't strap it on for tonight's game against the Pussies.  I don't trust either side.  I guess Anderson will be in for FLA, and that might scream "take BUF" to some, but I do not see it as being so black 'n' white as all that.

I've thought this one thru.  BUF has gone Under (5.5) for two games now.  Every since coming home they've gone Under (5.5) and both those games went to an SO.
SO and it still clocked in at under 5.5 (the total *was* 5 for both).  Still that is some impressive stuff.  One would be tempted to think that there's no way they go under the total again today, right?  Well that is exactly how I'll be playing this game.  UNDER (5.5)    Is the third time the charm?  Will they keep the scoring in check?  We shall see.  Regardless of those stats this is a %100 absolute and complete gut pick for me.  So consider yourself warned/informed.

NSH v PHX - I suppose NSH was expecting to lose to the Sharks last night.  Honestly though, if not for Cheechoo's hat-trick, the Sharks would have likely lost.  So today they meet the Coyotes.  The Desert Dogs have got to be hungry for this win than the Country Cats.  Both these teams can score, yet both goales here are top notch as well.  I'll stick w/ the home side.

Nashville will not have enough left in the tank to contend w/ Gretzky's team.  PHX (ML)

CHI v VAN - Well the Avs came in and exposed the Canucks lack of a defense.  The Van's wheels done fell off.  And just in time for Jonathan Toews to come back and make 'em hurt.  CHI (ML)  <<HUGE

I guess, if I were worried about being wrong I wouldn't post a play for every game.  I really am interested in hearing other's input however.  Also, maybe it's just arrogance, but I'm not of the mindset that I couldn't pick every game on a board like todays.  And if not *every* game, then at least *close* to every game.

Anywho, those thoughts were running thru my head . . . and I felt like sharing them.  GL today people, and enjoy the show.  Cheers.

CBJ (ML)

Chicago, Chicago . . . and more Chicago

VAN looks dead in the water, and the Avs ran them ragged last night.

Other than that I'd suggest looking around the forums and maybe checking back in here to see what discourse is taking place.

I hate admitting it, but I am nearing that same breaking point myself (too many parlays).  Here's to both of us having better luck today.

Actually, I really like all of my pick 'a lot'.  But that's why I post 'em, to see if somebody can produce some good "counter-point" to make me rethink a pick.

Like yesterday Tom said, he liked the Rangers.  I didn't end up betting on them, but I was able to go back and do some research to take a look at the angle he had seen.  Which I will consider in the future.

What do you like today?  Cause if you're not "feelin' it" I suggest to just lay off for a day or two.  Patience is so important in money management friend.

Or maybe just bet a fraction of your normal amount, just to have some sort of action on the fly.  Either way.  BOL

Excellent advice Guts,It was my intention to bet up to recoup or break even but your so right,if you dont manage your bank roll you soon won't have one.So thanks Guts,my pelim picks all ML are;
Pitts
Minn
Chicago
Phoenix
And my shoot out candidate today would have to be Fla/Buff.Out of Buffalos last 10 games 3 went to the shootoutagainstBoston,NJ,ATL .Also it was Buff's last 4 games they played.Fla doesnt have a shootout record with Buff however so there really is no history to back up my hunch but it just seems to me Buff has been tieing alot of games of late.
Anyone have a take on this one or any other SO possibilities?

UNTG, I'm actually liking the Ducks today. They are coming off 3 wins against quality teams and seem to have finally found their scoring touch.  They're 1-1-1 against the Red Wings this year, one loss being 2-1, the other being a SO loss.  Detroit has blown 2 3rd period leads their last two games against LA and TOR, both teams are fighting for last place.  I don't know if the Wings are mentally giving up against the teams or what.  Since Detroit did play last night and lost Cleary for 6-8 weeks, I think the Ducks will pull it out in the end.  I'm thinking a very low scoring game with alot of hits in this one.

New info boys, talking about SO games check this out!
Last 10 Chicago games overall,4 went to SO's,against SJ,PHO,COLand Nashville. All coming on the road.
Vancouvers last 10 overall,4 went to the shootout as well but 3 of these were on the road and were against Dal,Fla,Det.The lone SO game at home was against St-Louis.

Good candidate for another tie?........SO?

gbear, as I mentioned in an earlier post.  The Sabres have played to the SO in their previous two games.  Going a third straight seems unlikely.  PICKS LOOK GOOD.

I guess man.  I mean, you're the expert.  I've never played the SO.

You must get some sweet odds on a prop like that though.  What's the payout, like 10 to 1?

No guts our state run books always run under on the odds ,today they are;FLA/BUFF 6.6-1
             CHI/VAN   7.5-1
Having said that though if you parlay,{ you have to take a min of 3 games}with a tie and say 3 wins yes its VERY lucrative.Ask anybody up here in Canada whos won with PRO-LINE or MISE O JEU.Today, just for shits and giggles my card will look like this
Pitts-ML
Minn-ML
Pho-ML
Chi/VAN -Tie
Fla/Buff-Tie
A 10.00 Wager will bring home 3,356.30.
Thats why I'm always after the SO candidates! It doesnt happen that often but when it does.......

Good morning to you, Guts.
Hockey Day in Canada is merely a hangover now. Doesn't Hallmark do a card or anything for it?!?
Some thoughts...
Gotta go with PHI today for the same reason that I went with the Rangers yesterday - past record. Pit swept the season series last year but, so far this year, Phi is sweeping. Staying with that trend until it stops. Taking the OVER is also tempting based on their match-ups this season.
I like ANA to beat the Wings. Det tends to win 8 or 9 in a row and then lose a bunch in a row. Should've been on the Leafs yesterday for that very reason. Ducks have been hot since Selanne returned. Hot Ducks vs Suddenly Cold Wings = ANAHEIM
Going with the UNDER in the NY-WAS game.
I agree - CHI is a solid pick tonight
As for shoot-outs, you only get 6-1 odds on ProLine (sometimes 6.5-1). There were none yesterday with a full slate of games - gotta believe there will be a few today. I know that most of you don't worry about SO but I'd use that info to stay away from taking -1.5 bets today. One goal margins are going to be in play today if there are some OT or SO games.
So, there you go, Guts - we differ in our thoughts again today - and, here, I was beginning to think we were twins separated by birth or salary cap or something. Happy Handicapping today, buddy!

Hey, gbear - did you cash in on the NJ-BUF shoot-out last week? The FOURTH TIME IN A ROW that they've gone to a SO. Had it on my ProLine parlay and cashed in. I have a feeling that the FLA-BUF game could be decided in a SO today. Also, looking ahead - only one game tomorrow night and I've noticed that when there's only one game on the sched it often goes to a SO.

How will ANA win @ DET, you say?

First you have to look at the reasons for their two losses. First, they didn't deserve to win @ MIN. Should have been called for many penalties in the last half of the game. Instead NONE!?! Yeah, that's crap. They carry that lazy attitude (reinforced by the refs lack of calls) over into their next couple of games. Total no-show against LAK. Toronto got all the calls (or lack thereof) and got healthy just in time to face the Wings.

Now we look at ANA. They get Selanne back on the ice and probably Pahlsson today. Gives them much more offensive punch. What they've really done is improve their attitude which goes a long way toward increasing effort and thus results. ANA housed DET in the WCCS last season. They know this team, how they play and how to beat them.

Subtract Dan Cleary's

The factor you're expecting (along with everyone else yesterday) is an increase in effort from DET. This is a mistake. DET is basically locked into the conference lead. Since OTT took a few games on the chin they're probably locked into the Presidents trophy too. These games where the team appears to coast is where they put the young guys in to work the system and prepare to join the team later should injuries occur (they always do).

Don't for a second think that DET _can't_ lose 3 in a row. They already have once this season.

lol  Good stuff Tom.  I really haven't taken head2head history into account in my recent plays.  It isn't a stat that strikes me as "all important", however, I do reckon that it is too important to discount completely.

Ya, Proline and props is all Greek to me.  That's kookie that y'all have a state run gambling operation however.  I mean, in the USA we have "the lottery" which is more or less the same thing.

But the gov't taking action on sports betting?  I doubt that I'll live to see the day.  Anyway, ya that's interesting . . .  *hmm* kookie.

Philly might have an edge history-wise, but I just think too highly of Conklin, and Nittymaki, while I believe he'll have a better game today, screwed me when I last put my chips in his corner, and I just can't do that again so soon.

The Ducks could win, I just have too much faith in the Wings ability to shine in the spotlight.  Also, as was mentioned on television, the Ducks showed the Wings the exit door in last seasons playoffs . . . Conference finals (if I'm not mistaken), so while they may'be played since then, today presents itself as a really great opportunity for DET to knock their dicks in the dirty  err . . . ice.

So be it.  Enjoy the show(s) today my friend.  Cheers.
