I wish ALL the top players would just take the week off instead of playing. damn so called "All-Star" game is as big a joke as the outdoor games bullshite

I agree, but would much rather watch the NHL ASG than the NFL fiasco

He was never going to play lol, and smart of the caps to be pulling the fake illness/ injury bit, get him rested, there is zero wrong with him other than his team getting outclassed last night again lol

if i was a nhl player i wouldn't want to participate either...but its part of the milllions and millions they are paid for 'playing sports', not a bad deal
the nhl all star game is a lousy product..i've watched it the last few years and its clear the players 'don't want to score'..its a hot potato contest is really all it is..for over bettors its infuriating to watch
i believe last year the total was 21, given the decline in overall scoring, ihope they drop that number this year as i havee not yet seen a line...every year i see more players in the asg who i feel have no business being there..
i'll most likely be on the over once again but clearly the way the nhl asg is played is not to the fans best interest...''you shoot it, i'll feel embarassed if i score''..very exciting hockey indeed!

Toews isn't playing either another smart move......Why tires a star player out with meaningless garbage when you have plans to make a deep playoff run.
Who gives a crap about the all star game seriously?

You're absolutely right Polar. I've been an avid hockey fan since I was 6. I haven't watched an All-Star game in its entirety in 17 years. I remember because I was a Freshman in high school at the time.
Those were the days when the North Americans played "The World."

Agreed brother, there is not one good aspect about the entire thing. It just makes an already too long of a season even longer and means an extra week of sitting inside in nice summer weather to watch the stanley cup when it could be over 5 days earlier without this trash.

true BUT I believe there have been maybe 2 UNDERS the last 10 years? the OVER in the NHL All-Star game has been "The Annual, Traditional Sports Betting LOCK of the YEAR" for decades going back to the "fill the net" 1990's

Maybe they should do the all star game at the end of season? Regardless.. this annual event has become a joke....Bettman again creating a watered down circus event we call the NHL. Can we go back to the 80's & 90's?

I agree Culls. Not a fan of any of the changes since the lock-out. Most of us didn't learn how to play the game this way. Goalie can't play the puck behind the net, no two line pass rule, decreasing the size of the neutral zone, etc. You touch a player now and it's interference!
What kind of sh!t is that?
I guess a lot people didn't genuinely understand the strategy of the game so they thought making new rules to promote offense was warranted. It took me a while to get used to it but I would rather they revert back to the old style of play. Can't argue that it was more physical.

since NHL players are neanderthals and love beating the sh*t out of eatchother, treating their fellow opponents like utter crap, why not for the all star game letting sticks be involved in fights?! crowds love fighting right? make it more gladiatoriphic and allow sticks for weapons...most players have no teeth and are already pretty dumb as it is so what do they have to lose? i don't wanna see boxing poses and jerseys being pulled over faces, NHL loves its violence image right? show me guys breaking their sticks over heads and you have my attention

I venture to wager that you grew up playing non-contact pu$$y sports (if any) like Tennis, Baseball and Soccer because mommy and daddy didn't want little BowmanAddict to get hurt.

slobber what the hell are you talking about? i have no clue what you're blabbering about
but i'm going to assume you are a supporter of nhl goons spilling their blood and guts all over their ice, the vicious sucker bunches to the mouth, while little children in the stands bear witness to this?!
if you have no problem with your kids watching toothless goons punching eachother (keeping in mind that the sport is supposed to be hockey isn't it?!?!?) and spearing and spitting their teeth all over the ice, then i already know wat kind of guy you are
btw would u mind filling me in on last nights jerry springer episode cuz i missed it...did you watch it as it aired or were u at work and your cheap dvr broke midway cuz your trrailor park salary couldn't afford to buy an actual reliable model? how about you stick to wagering on the wwf...your insight here seems a little stupid to me

I'm also curious why all the hitting and violence in the european hockey league is so minute in comparison to north american hockey..
in case anyone else here is a little princess, i'm not referring to the body checking, i'm pretty sure i made that perfectly clear, the hitting is part of the momentum of the game...i'm referring to the senseless beatings players in the nhl give eachother...
european hockey is more fluent and doesn't have the idiotic pushing and shoving after every single wistle the nhl does..
I'm also someone who enjoys offensive hockey..the more popular the 'enforcer's for example, get, the more of them we'll be seeing in the nhl and we are seeing ....i think that would explain the decline in nhl scoring...less talented players like kane, ovechkin and more tie domis and ryan reaves

Springer was ok last night, but I couldn't catch the end of it because I didn't have money for the power bill. It got turned off again. Still waiting for Monday the first to collect my welfare check. I don't go to work BTW as I like to feed off the government as a means of providing for myself. As for the trailor park that I live in, it's quite a prize. Anyone who's been to North Jersey knows that its littered with a bunch of trailor parks. How else could I afford to live.
Don't get salty because I hit a nerve. That fact that you honestly believe that NHL players are goons is hilarious. Sure there are some malicious hits from time to time, but it's a contact sport! People are supposed to get hit and be hit, but as I've mentioned, you never played so you don't understand. I honestly could do without the fighting, but players getting bloodied up happens sometimes and is part of the game. You don't like it or want your kids watch, then that's your prerogative.
With daughters is understandable but If you have a son, I feel bad for him. He's going to witness a lot worse in his life than a mean old hockey player playing a sport that way it's supposed to be played. You can count on it so don't shelter the little guy.
You're raising a marshmallow if he's as soft as you. I hope has an uncle that has a pair because its obvious you don't.

Now now, keep it classy. I do apologize for the trailor park comment. I don't want to start turning the NHL forum into the nba/nfl forum.
In all seriousness though, do you read or just skim through stuff? I'll say it again, the body checking is part of the momentum of the game. The injuries are part of the game. If a guy accidentally gets high sticked and gets a nasty gash with blood gushing out, thats part of physics and also the game. If a guy ate at mcdonalds on gameday and hurls on the ice during the 2nd period, althought I've never seen it happen, its not necessarily his fault but its gastrointestinal and part of the game in its own way. I know I would never eat at mcdonalds since i don't like consuming barely edible sludge, but to each their own.
My issue is once the whistle goes, wtf is the point of the posing like boxers in the middle of the ice, building some suspense, and then trying your darndest to knock the other guys teeth out?! So you're saying that the objective of the game is to score goals but also create dental and/or cerebral implications?! lol btw, ever heard of derrek boogard? I would qualify him as a goon (wasn't he?), how did his life and his familys life turn out? I'll let you get back to me on that.
Also, I played ice hockey during my high school years. Hockey is my favourite sport. I also never called nhl players goons, i call the worthless enforcers like ryan reaves, who contribute nothing other than spilled blood and broken bones, to the game. He's a goon. All fighting and zero talent = goon.
I do enjoy this topic. If this was a debate, being on my side it would be darn diddly hard to lose.
Take away the moronic fighting and the pushing and shoving after every whistle ( are these 10 year olds on a playground?) and you've got a great product.

Some ppl are just clueless & never played the game so they don't have a clue what there talking about. This game is not for puss.ys & if you don't like watching good old tough hockey then don't watch the sport. You think winning the stanley cup is easy.

When Did I ever say this? Please point it out for me. I implore you.
First, I responded after your initial post that mentioned nothing of body checking. It's not until after I responded that you mentioned checking.
Second, never have I mentioned anything about enjoying "goons" injure other players and seeing blood. Again, this one you created on your own. A mindless rant that only reinforced how much of a pu$$y you are. I mentioned that I could care less either way if the NHL allowed fighting or not. I don't enjoy seeing players get injured whether a hit is malicious or not.
As for keeping it classy, I don't disrespect other members on this forum by insinuating that they're white white trash. I'm toothless? Live in a trailor? Wager on the WWF? Make inadequate salary?
You're retracting your opinions of me because you probably realized how immature you were being. Don't worry, it's all good. We mature mentally at different rates. Grow up, you're not 18 anymore.

Wow BowmansAddict you are unreal...telling everyone to keep it classy while you bring up the unfortunate death of a young man and call him a goon. But wait, you never call NHL players goons...but wait, you then go on to call another NHL player a goon right after. So what is it?
You're probably the same type of guy that thinks John Scott is a knuckle-dragging meathead because it's easier to believe that than to actually learn anything about the guy personally. He's actually got an engineering degree from Michigan Tech. Funny thing is, if you put him (or any enforcer for that matter) out on the ice with non-NHL players they'll skate circles around everybody. These guys are still wicked talented!
