5 great reasons not to question Leaf management personnel moves of recent seasons:
1) Kessel trade
2) Lupul trade
3) Phaneuf trade (yes... Phaneuf for a bag of pucks, I'll take)
4) JVR trade
5) Bernier trade
...Nonis seems to have a clue... I would consider myself a skeptic and CRITIC when it comes to Leaf management over the long haul... not this time

...are you in the room? I'm tired of fans proclaiming the deficiencies of Phaneuf as a captain... the team has improved tremendously under his leadership.. that's all I need to see to give him the thumbs up. Burke made him captain, he has done a decent job living up to it IMO. He is not perfect defensively, and could use some help back there... most of the time he seems to be the only one exerting any effort which is why his mistakes often stand out
The BAG of pucks was an array of yesteryear Leafs who needed to be tied to a can.. along with the memories of failure they were associated with... Burke's masterstroke was getting a solid NHL D-man in return.... even if somewhat overpaid.

By the way, I have no reason to dislike OR like Dion.. but I can tell you he is "a friend of a friend" and the guy is as down to earth as they get... he is also extremely generous with his time and efforts for fans (which I know from a distance but won't waste time explaining in detail here) ...now last time I checked.. those things meant something in a leader/in the room... especially in a hockey captain, at least in the eyes of his teammates. Stand up guy.. if he fought every game and dated a bimbo instead of a celebrity Leaf nation would love him... its kind of stupid.

If you are putting that on the captain and not the coach and defense/goalie I gotta wonder how much hockey you've played or even watched... sorry sir

tonydan: I don't think it sticks to him. You disagree. The irony here is its pretty much a reflection of the polarizing figure he is in Leafland... again, I have no reason to like the guy... I feel neutral on his "reign"... but I do feel he gets a bad rap for an alleged "lack of leadership" from the same quarters that never accepted Sundin's leadership... its annoying to me LOL... no offense
