I say there is little chance USA loses this game. Even though they lost last time out vs. Slovakia.
While Slovakia sports 15 NHL players, they have four main players: Chara, Hossa, Tatar, and Halak.
Gaborik (a game-breaker) and Visnovsky are injured. And you have a solid USA team of 100% NHL players looking to avenge 2010. It is not
outlandish at all to say they *could* push for gold. But the likelihood
is bronze.
IMO, USA has made the right call going with Quick in
goal. He's got solid playing time under his belt since returning from
injury. He can absolutely shut down a game by himself, and I think is
going to be a WALL in front of a team which, while close, is not in the
medal picture - I don't think they make the semi's again, IMO. I
would bet fairly confidently against that.
Unlike badlands says, I would
maybe put some down on the puck line. While the Slovaks were very close to
upending Canada in the semi's in 2010, and they are no slouch, the USA
is stacked in comparison, and this game *should* be a walk. But my main
bet would still be ML. I'd bet softly on -1.5, and sprinkle on -2.5 for fun.
I predict a 2 goal win, but with caution. In a short tournament, goaltending can carry you, and Halak is a great goalie with a lot of international experience, unlike Quick.

Good luck!
this game SHOULD NOT be a walk. if the game should be a walk they would be favored by 4.5 like russia....and you gave the reason why slovakia is the play...

people underestimate the angles...there is a reason why canada and us didnt even medal the last 2 times the olympics were on international rinks and won gold and silver when they were on nhl rinks. people will ignore this the whole tourney though. its easy to ignore.

USA is -310 to win ML. That is a walk in my book. ML is quite safe.
Halak, while great, does not make Slovakia +1.5 the play. Quick and Halak both play in front of good D in the NHL. But I think Quick is the better tender. Only based on XP do I put them at even. And then I look to the teams, and the USA is twice the team in front of the mesh that Slovakia is. Easy math.
I hear you about international ice. But IMO, the USA have built more for speed this time around. I like the look.
I do think this is a walk, in terms of winning. I think -1.5 is more solid than you indicate. You talk like it's unlikely, and I think it's likely.
Besides all this discussion, I think my play for tomorrow will be to parlay Finland -2.5 @-250 and USA ML @-310 together, which comes close to -110. Worth betting on to me, rather than laying -310 on USA alone.

THRIVER, JUST HAMMER THE ML. THAT FINLAND GAME COULD GET DICEY. BADLANDS IS JUST TRYING TO JUSTIFY HIS PLAY ON SLOVAKIA +1 1/2. DONT LET HIM SCARE U AWAY FROM THE BETTER PLAY.
YES, U.S. COULD LOSE. BUT THEY ARE THE BETTER TEAM BY FAR!!!

I'm with thriver and unplug on this one. USA has the edge up front, on the blue line, and in net. I understand that North American teams a lot of times struggle in international play in Europe, but this matchup is pretty uneven all things considered. I would take USA PL and if you are going to take ML definitely parlay it.
