The Pittsburgh Penguins have agreed to terms with forward Evgeni Malkin on an eight-year $76 million contract extension, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero.
The deal begins with the 2014-15 season and runs through the 2021-22 campaign, and has an average annual value of $9.5 million. He will earn $9.5 million for each of the eight seasons.

Shero can NOT have a repeat of the "Mad Max" Talbot situation with "Doopy" who is one of the BEST defensive forwards in the league and who can also score. he SHOULD have been a Selke finalist this season. he and Cooke are one of the best PK pairs in the league. they need "cap space" they can let Jarome Iginla, who is also a UFA, and his $7 million salary go

I can assure you the "The Great Iggy Experiment" is DONE in Pittsburgh unless he's willing to "work for wages" and even THEN I don't know IF I would want him. make room for younger, bigger faster guys.

Cooke does the "wet work" for this Penguins team. There's nobody literally that can fill his shoes, he keeps talent off the ice by drawing/taking penalties. He's one of those I'd rather play with him then against him types.
