Prior to the start of the 2006–07 season, Panthers general manager Mike Keenan traded Luongo to the Vancouver Canucks on June 23, 2006. He was packaged with defenceman Lukáš Krajícek and a sixth round draft pick (Sergei Shirokov) in exchange for forward Todd Bertuzzi, defenceman Bryan Allen and goaltender Alex Auld
- I know Luongo gave us a good run and at the time and years after this trade was considered a steal for us.. Is it still a steal? Bryan Allen is a top 4 defencemen.. Bertuzzi contributed as a 3rd liner tallying 40-45 pts/year for about 4 years after.. Krajicek, Shirokov didn't pan out at all.. And now we're left with the looming contract.. Granted at the time and couple years after the trade was a steal for the Canucks..
And now.. Not so much.. Understandibly the contract signing was a major part of the problem.. ![]()
We'll never know if Loo didn't come how we'd have fared but.. I'm pretty torn on whether I'd take this trade back now.. I'm a big Allen fan we needed a guy like that.
