#1 Posted: 6/18/2012 4:11:08 PM You have a Devil of a chance to guess............
While the NHL could be on its way to solving an ownership problem in Phoenix, things in New Jersey could reportedly get even stickier.
According to Josh Kosman of the New York Post, the league is prepared to take control of the New Jersey Devils from owner Jeff Vanderbeek if he cannot refinance the $77 million in debt the team is in by an August 14 deadline. According to Kosman, the league is ready to act swiftly but the Devils owner also has other options.
The commissioner is expected to give Vanderbeek a few more weeks to complete a financial restructuring but will not wait until the Aug. 14 deadline passes, sources said.
The NHL would likely force him out sooner to give suitors enough time to study the team’s financials and make an offer to lenders before the bankruptcy deadline, according to sources.
Moreover, new investors may not want to buy the team and leave Vanderbeek in charge, sources added.
Faced with losing control of the team, Vanderbeek could also decide to put the Devils into bankruptcy and buy himself several months to arrange a restructuring plan.
A league takeover would be an extreme measure, and this news comes at a horrible time for the Devils. New Jersey is fresh off an invigorating run to the Stanley Cup finals, one that reportedly made them over $26 million in ticket revenue, and faces the prospect of trying to re-sign Zach Parise this summer. Safe to say if problems are this bad for the Devils money-wise, Parise is as good as gone. |

haven't seen anything recently about the possable building of a Arena in Suffolk County for the Islanders SO I guess it's possable that Charles Wang could sell or move them sometime in the future.
they have been building thru the draft and have a decent young "core" of players esp @ center/forward. IF they can shore up their D and get a decent G, they could break thru.
ESPN New York web page says that the new Barclay's Center in Brooklyn, which will be the home of the NBA Nets next season, is also interested in the Islanders BUT it only holds 14,500 fans for hockey.
Barclay's article ref: http://espn.go.com/new-york/nhl/story/_/id/7873444/barclays-center-owner-bruce-ratner-hopeful-nhl-tenant |

a bit surprised coming from someone who usually writes intelligent posts, just out there,i mean YOUR personal feelings are greater than any one elses, probably a stinking leafs fan! cant wait for a couple of years when the world makes sense again, and the isles and oilers are fighting for nhl's top spot, while the leafs are selecting the only player not to become pro with thier number 1 overall! |

that's been the pattern so far in Toronto and when they DO get a good young talent, he sits on the Marlies |

if it only takes a couple of years until the world makes sense again, then hallelujah...
as we speak though, the NHL is seriously bloated..
the proud championship history of the islanders in my view makes it even more disconcerting that the franchise is mired in irrelevance, and sadder yet that if the team were vaporized the amount of people who actually care wouldn't occupy half the barn...

#15 Posted: 6/20/2012 5:57:15 PM Isles have money problems, an old barn and a crazy owner as reasons they aren't winning. What are the loafs excuses? Richest team in the world, new arena with all the fixings, etc etc. Last time they won, i fell off my pet brontasaurus and broke my stone underwear!! |

last thing i'll ever be is an apologist for the mangled leaves...
difference is, win or lose, competitive or crappy, they're never irrelevant...
jersey and isles, by comparison: more recent Cups than MLs have had sniffs of the hardware, and most nights both organizations (along with a half-dozen or so others) are mere afterthoughts
which, i might add, is a shame but a fact nonetheless

there's nothing personal about the simple fact that jersey and the isles, despite championship pedigree, can't draw respectable crowds...

due to ownerships and politics, it looks grim in long island, but all it would take is a commitment, a contract to assure thier future on long island and all that would change, fans have gotten tired of being dragged through the mud, but would love nothing less than to support the team! now do they have one? and the sentiments around here cant be measured by some little article you might read in your local paper. |

the last thing pro sports is about is the devotion and loyalty of the true fan...
it starts and ends with the bottom line: franchise ledgers and the bank balances of owners, executives, and players...
the rest of us, and our passion for the game, are hostages to greed

Islanders vs Penguins games always have some "fireworks" and usually a LOT of scoring. same when the Rangers and Islanders match up. Islanders may be "sucking" lately mostly because of their ownership and financial situation BUT Rangers vs Islanders is STILL one of the better "rivalries" in the league AND the Isl's have had their share of "upsets" @ MSG the last few years. |
