Sup guys, more of an nba and ncaab capper, but I've always been interested in hockey thinking there might be some value in the lines since Vegas doesn't spend as much time making them. However, for whatever reason, I just can't win...ever!
I haven't kept track but I'm probably hitting like 10-20% no joke and I don't think I've won my last 10 bets. Today, I took the Maple Leafs ML and they were down 2-0 in less than 3 minutes...
So, I'm coming to you guys in the hockey forum and just wanted to hear any tips, advice on how you guys look at games. See more value in totals, PL, MLs? Anything that you think could help me out of this losing streak would be greatly appreciated.

When starting out look for slight faves or dogs and avoid juice at all costs. Don't play pucklines until you get a real feel for what you are doing and just hang around here and read and watch, you will notice angles. Hockey is hard but if you watch closely it also provides many good situational betting spots. There are many good cappers in this forum to watch, follow and learn from.
Welcome to the jungle...
The lion and the tiger may be more powerful, but the wolf doesn't perform in the circus.

this will sound wierd BUT I think it's easier to pick bad teams to bet AGAINST than picking "good" teams you think will win. I have found this true over the years for both football AND hockey.
I know it's sounds "off the wall" BUT it's a "mind set". classic is the Leafs last night. betting the Panthers was a bet AGAINST the Leafs rather than ON the Panthers. same with the BJ's

Try and make mostly +$ wagers, I would suggest betting on underdogs long term. If you prefer betting favourites more than turn them into dogs by taking -1 or 1.5 lines. This will give you more margin for error and will sustain your bankroll long term because it will minimize losses. Assuming you make lets say, 300 wagers over the season at an average of -130 juice, some bets will be lower than this and some higher but on average -130. Using $100 as a unit, if you have a good year and go 165-135 which is 55%, you will still be down -$1050 ! You would need to hit at about 57% long term to show a profit and that is very difficult to do. Money line dogs win everyday in hockey so there is plenty of value throughout the season. Good luck.

Bet on good teams like Detroit, Bruins and Capitals and you will do just fine......
Couple slight edits:
1. Washington is not good. Scratch them from the list.
2. The "good" teams will always be heavily juiced. Look into betting them when they're solid road teams and fairy priced, or when they're not too highly priced at home.

Was going to edit a couple of points myself but Mrweed13 beat me to the punch. Can't have your cake and eat it too. If you're gonna bet the good teams like Boston. Rangers,Wings, be prepared to lay the heavy juice unless of course they're playing one another. Also Blocksnbooze despite what you might think, oddsmakers spend every bit as much time or maybe even more capping and setting hockey lines than they do any of the other major sports and it doesn't matter what sport you're looking at or betting, there's value in them all if you look long and hard enough. Bol betting the best and most exciting sport in the entire universe---NHL hockey!
