I guess you can either look at it one of two ways; either you take him at face value and believe he doesn't feel he merits being there because he's suspended, or he's using the opportunity to skip out on something he's really doesn't feel like going to anyways.

Personally I'd say it's probably more of the latter. I think the All Star game is lame anyways, and it just got lamer.

I don't blame him. I think Shanahan has butchered the discipline this year. Players kind of confused.  He's within his rights,  Kypreos has good article on it today. Suspended players probably shouldn't be allowed to play. Not the same as Lidstrom rule, that does not cover suspensions.

James Neal? HOW the HELL wasn't he selected in the FIRST place? he's tied for 2nd in goals with Jonathan Toews and along with Geno Malkin is carrying the Pens right now. 

and btw, I'm glad Scotty Hartnell was selected to replace Toews. VERY under-rated player outside of Philadelphia.

he was supposed to vacationing during the break since he didnt think he's got selected. So it is just a way for him to get back to his original plan.

Yes the allstar game has seen better days.. Players play the game because they love it and growing up thats all they wanted to do.. I personally think its embarassing for a player who is nominated to back out.. YOU ARE GETTING " PAID " TO PLAY.. There are millions and millions of people in this world that can probably play better hockey than most of the NHLers but dont get the chance to play because they dony have the money growing up to play sports..

Whomever backs out of playing should never be allowed to be in the polls in future events.. This is your fucking job and you get paid millions for it that most dont deserve anyways.. 

Give me a Jersey with my name on the back of it and I would be out there for peanuts just because I love the game. To many selfish motherfuckers now a days...
